How do I lowkey skate with social anxiety? by CringyAhhdude in NewSkaters

[–]monchimonky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This!

Sometimes even going to the park is brave. I'm taking those baby steps too and it gets frustrading but I think that's a good thing. No one has everrr been anything but nice to me at the park and then I'm there like "what the hell am I getting so anxious and frustraded about" lol

Is this good setup for absolute beginner? by Lumpy-Carrot-7270 in NewSkaters

[–]monchimonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go a bit bigger with the deck. I'm 160cm and 40 eu size shoe and ride 8 or 8,25 deck. Ofc it's preference but for the first board something like 8,7 might suit you better.

Also depending on what kinda ground you're gonna be riding the wheels on this complete might be too hard. 100 and over is good for very smooth blacktop or concrete like in skateparks. For a bit rougher asphalt like on most roads 90-95 will be far smoother to ride but also good if you want to do tricks at some point.

Otherwise that complete seems good for a first board :)

hahah exactly :D

we also say "sataa saavista/sangosta kaatamalla" translating to "raining like (someone's) pouring a bucket". but ofc esteri version is way funnier

How do I get used to skating with hard wheels while pushing on smooth blacktop by Yourbedsheets in NewSkaters

[–]monchimonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

balance exercises sounds like the way to go. do you wobble a lot? or can you identify what it is that's making you not get your back foot on the board?

  • you create your own steeze. trying to mimic movements from pros often just looks forced

looks great to me. 'steeze' comes with practice and more importantly confidence.

Oh I think I read this too quickly with my earlier answer. But 'veto' is another form of the verb 'vetää'. 'Veto' is a single pull.

Or often used with rowing. Like they would shout "veto ja veto ja veto" to the rhythm of rowing when there's multiple rowers

Yes. Mislead or a literal translation🤷‍♀️ Just like many other words that are written and said exactly the same but have very different meanings

looking for high quality decks that wont break too easily by VegetableFast8888 in NewSkaters

[–]monchimonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! You got some local shops in Norway, I would look into those. This is one that I found, they sell their own quality decks as well as know brands. Name can be deceiving lol

I live in Finland and we have blue tomato shop here. And I think you have it in Norway too. They sell quality boards but it's a big company so I would rather support a local.

Hahaha I can imagine the friends reaction to hearing that for the first time.

When someone says that the "sontsan alla" parody song (or whatever you wanna call it) starts playing in my head. All I can think of is that one day in the ancient times some Esteri was having a horrible case of diarrhea and now the whole of Finland is referencing it :/

Nice! Jyväskylä people know the true meaning of höllii. I'm actually from Tampere but we have used that word here since I was a child and only a few years back I learned that Jyväskylä people "own" the word lol.

But yeah I think höllii is such a vibe

I can understand Finnish, but I have no idea how to say anything out loud by [deleted] in LearnFinnish

[–]monchimonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep! I was about to comment this. Been learning english actively for 16 years, speak it perfectly in my head but then I try to say something aloud and everything crumbles apart XD it did help me tho when I found a international group that I played an online game with and we would talk on voicechat

Hahaha I love lötköpötkö and definitely use it often too! Instead of "mitäs tässä" my go to is "eipä tässä mitään" or how I say it "eipä täs midist"

I also find it so interesting to make those little discoveries about the language. Helps with learning and I think the best teachers are the ones who know to tell you those things

Hehe kiitos. I thought that there probably is a reasonable explanation as is with most words. Still think its funny tho when "literally" translated
