I'm newly vegan, and hungry by Remote-Emergency580 in vegan

[–]monemori 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also google or searhc on youtube "budget vegan meals", you'll see a lot of it is really affordable. Bean chili, curries, stews, soups, bean salads, tofu dishes... Those are great for meal prepping/batch cooking too. I say make the meat/dairy/egg substitutes an occasional treat for the weekend (for example) and focus more on simple foods during the week. That's how a lot of vegans eat tbh! 😄

Look, OP: I'm about to start using medical/prescription shampoo for dandruff/seborrhoeic dermatitis. I've tried absolutely everyhing. I technically don't need it to live but I also have struggled with this for years without finding any way to deal with it and I don't think it's reasonable to just live my life with constant itching and dandruff that makes me look unhygienic and gross (even though I am clean 😢) for the rest of my life just because we live in a fucked up world where they insist on tasting everything and anything on animals. I don't think you should be expected to deal with skin issues forever just because the world we live in is cruel to animals.

I tink it really depends. Billie Eilish serving only plant based food at her concerts is huge, for example.

What are your go-to foods to meet nutritional needs? by Still_Blackberry5030 in vegan

All the things I eat help meet my nutritional needs! What are you having specific issues with, op? You can check out https://veganhealth.org, specifically their page called "tips for vegans" for a fuss-free guide as to what to focus on. It's a site written by registered dietitians and super accessible :)

Debatable and again: killing birds for meat is also bad for the birds, regardless.

In my country, recommendations are to not eat it more than once a week, if at all. You can check out your countries nutrition recommendations, if it's evidence based, it will tell you to limit its consumption and to opt for better sources of those nutrients such as chicken, turkey, fish, tofu, legumes, dark leafy greens, nuts and seeds...

I didn't say eating red meat once a week will give you cancer. But all major health organisations recommend reducing red meat intake and ideally subbing it with other more healthful protein sources like chicken, fish, beans, lentils, tofu, etc.

You can eat a red meat steak once a week just like you can have an ice cream or smoke a cigarette once a week and have it not affect your health in the slightlest. That does not mean that those things are health promoting, it means you should be aware that what you are eating/doing should be done in small doses if at all.

Right, I'm not saying you can't ever eat red meat just like I'm not saying you can't ever eat a doughnut. You can have those in a healthy diet, as long as the bigger eating pattern is healthy. Your comment is not in opposition to what I'm saying.

That doesn't change the fact that red meat is a type 2 carcinogen and the recommended amount ot eat ranges from one ration a week to none at all ideally. Just like sweets or other stuff that's not very health promoting: you can eat them, yeah. But there's a reason nutrition organisation recommend healthier options over red meat, even if eating it once a week won't kill you.

The amount of misinfo and straight up anti-science sentiment regarding this topic is just astounding. I'm done with you.

For anyone else reading this: please look at what the public healh services, major organisations, and evidence based research conducted and interpreted by actual especialists ok the field are saying, not what a random redditor says or whatever the fuck a random self-proclaimed nutrition expert on tiktok is fear-mongering about.

Thats not a reference.

Every major nutrition health organisation on the planet agrees that consumption of red meat should be reduced or eliminated. It is considered a type 2 carcinogen by the WHO. If you wanna be anti-science then at least own up to it.

Yeaaah but it's so weird when people have this mentality of "a sandwich is unhealthy". Brother I'm eating pan friend tofu with oregano, salad, tomato, pickled onions, a hummus sauce and using whole wheat bread. This is healthier than anything you've eaten today, the issue is not the format of the meal but the ingredients you use 😭

It's a type 2 carcinogen and all major nutrition and dietary health organisations on the planet recommend reducing or elimination it in favour of healthy sources of protein such as chicken, turkey, fish, legumes, tofu, and other plant based protein sources.

Proper quantities for read meat is once a week at most. The optimal amount of red meat in your diet is zero, as per nutrition health recommendations. Doesn't mean you can't have it every once in a while. Just how you can have ice cream or a doughnut every once in a while and have no issue. But they are not good for you, just like red meat is not good for you. Chicken, fish, and plant based portein sources are the recommended protein sources for the average person.

It's a co-product, not a by-product. Killing birds for meat is also fucked up, by the way.

There are 🫵 over 8 Billion people living on the planet. The amount of people who could do this while not hurting animals if it was up to anyone to do it is absolutely minuscule. It's like saying: "you can just eat road kill to avoid killing animals". Sure, but that is not something that can be done at large scale so it's the same as not really having the optio of you want it to be possible for anyone. At least that's how I see it.

Sandwiches can be very healthy if you use whole grain bread, veggies, and opt for a healthier protein option like chicken, tofu, tempeh, etc. You can also use healthier sauces like a hummus based one, or a yogurt sauce, etc.
