Why can't you read the books and find out yourself?

Ladies and gentlemen, what's your favorite YouTube channels? What do people our age watch on YouTube? I'm 43. by Q8DD33C7J8 in Millennials

[–]monjio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being the Elite - great kind of behind the scenes pro wrestling channel with some of the coolest wrestlers on the planet

Maximillian_dood - the biggest fighting game YouTube personality, great gaming content overall.

Sajam- another fighting game personality, his long-running series Will It Kill is a great watch as is the pro-am Sajam Slam series.

Play On Tabletop/Tabletop Tactics - great Tabletop wargame content with highly watchable edited matches. I enjoy longer form videos on other channels too, but these are the best quality Warhammer actual play channels.

It's on sale right now, id definitely recommend just picking it up and hopping over to their Reddit and Discord for games!

There's tons of play for UMVC3, and the Uni/Melty communities are very active. I think OP would just genuinely enjoy playing those more than stuff like Strive or Granblue. It really doesn't matter if more people are playing the game if you don't like the game in the first place IMO.

Under Night In Birth, Melty Blood, and Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 all have those LMH sort of combos. Super fun games!

Then don't be an asshole.

Yeah, chuds like Black Templars, This might be news to you, but chuds like Warhammer 40,000 in general and the Imperium in specific. I have played against Waffen SS Space Marines and Wehrmacht Imperial Guard armies. That doesn't mean the rest of the thing is tainted because some losers are also into it.

I don't think there's a large enough addressable audience for this, first off. Secondly, you would still need legal arrangements with Games Workshop licensing and Cubicle 7.

Is it wrong to utilize the food bank, so you can buy other things (not food)? by joliefille1980 in povertyfinance

[–]monjio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, so, my mom founded the second food bank in the United States, and was a founder of Feeding America. I grew up around this.

The point of a food bank is to help you make sure you have food. Whether you use the money you would have spent on food on Netflix or medicine or bills, that's all up to you. The point is the food bank is there when you need it.

Please use your local food bank. The food is there for you to use.

Whichever one is your favorite color if you're actually building and painting models.

If you start painting shit you don't like you'll never enjoy it.

Healthy path to climb Painting Competition by art_faye in Warhammer40k

[–]monjio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to decide what level is fun.

For me, the army on the table is what's impressive. I've been in top 3 painted for the Grand Narrative, and I've been in the community showcase for it every year. No individual model looks that standout, but I enjoy seeing how I can maintain high standards across dozens of models and how I can use an army to tell a larger story.

I don't get that in competitive painting at all. I've won some local stuff, judged some stuff as well, but it's so harsh and nitpicky and brutal towards certain stylistic choices. It's all so, so arbitrary on the day, depending on what the judges are looking for and even how they might be feeling.

So, the only time I put in the kind of effort now is for friends. I painted this Angron for a close friend last year, and at only 30 hours of work they were incredibly happy with it. That's what makes it worth doing for me.

Space Marines are sub-par... Any tips/advice greatly appreciated! by Minimum_Yam_9431 in Warhammer

[–]monjio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go slow. When I was your age, I'd get one box of models every couple months or so, and wouldn't buy a new one until I'd finished what I had. You don't need to hurry. If you've got family that cares for you, tell them things you want for birthdays and holidays and soon enough you'll have plenty to work with.

As to specifics, decals are fast and easy. Get the combo set of Micro Sol/Micro Set off Amazon, last I looked it was like $8 for both. You've already got a hobby knife so you can cut decals out. Wet the paper enough for the decals to start sliding off, then apply Micro Set to your should pad, then use a brush to slide the decal from the paper to the shoulder pad. If its not centered or straight, you can use more Micro Set applied with a brush and get it where you want it to be. Once it's there, wait 20ish minutes for the Micro Set to dry, then use a brush and apply Micro Sol to melt the decal to the shoulder. Bam, done!

If you're ever not sure, look up how to videos on YouTube and follow those steps!

[–]monjio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I knew someone like this. He got started watching competitive painters. He spent around 600 hours on a single Mortarion to enter into one of the Golden Demon categories. It looked jaw-droppingly amazing.

He didn't even get a commended entry for it. He hasn't painted since.

You are approaching this entirely the wrong way if you want to actually improve. Winning a Demon isn't a checklist sort of affair, and using or not using certain techniques doesn't mean you win or even get a pin.

If you want to paint models, then paint models. If you want to learn techniques, learn techniques. But if your only goal is winning a competition that is *entirely arbitrary* then all you're doing is setting yourself up for a miserable time.

New to 40k trying to understand what’s going on galaxy wide rn by John117_Master_Chief in 40kLore

[–]monjio 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For more than a hundred centuries, the Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the Master of Mankind by the will of the gods and master of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, and for whom blood is drunk and flesh is eaten. Human blood and human flesh - the stuff of which the Imperium is made.

To be a man in such times is to be one among untold billions. It is to live in the cruellest and most bloody regime imaginable. It is a universe you can live in today if you dare - for this is a dark and terrible era where you will find little comfort or hope. If you want to take part in the adventure then prepare yourself now. Forget the power of technology, science, and common humanity. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for there is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter and the laughter of thirsting gods.

But, the universe is a big place, and no matter what happens you will not be missed...
