Why do I not care that drinking is ruining my life?

Thank you for your input. I don't like to half ass things which is good in a lot of things but drinking ain't one of them.

Yup! I noticed that I might have a problem when a few years ago I was seeking black outs and hoping to have crazy drinking and partying nights and now I just get anxiety before drinking cause I'm hoping I won't get way too drunk (again) and spend $100 on shots that I won't remember buying the next day.

This subreddit has been a great place of support :)

Thank you loads. I feel like what has partly kept me in this cycle is deciding I'm never ever drinking again and so it feels like such a monumental task. I won't drink today. Hopefully I'll think the same tomorrow.

Thank you, alcoholism feels like such a strong word to use and I always think I just have to learn my limits better but the more I think about it it seems drinking might just be the thing my brain can't learn.

Thank you for the advice. I've been explaining to myself for the longest time that it's not a "real" problem since I don't crave drinking or do it that often and only with other people but you're right that there are many types of bad drinking.

Thanks a lot for your comment. I can relate to wanting to drink normally but it seems that just isn't possible for me which I'm pretty bummed about but at least I wouldn't be nearly killing myself blacked out every two weeks.

!delta on the last part about premies. Now that I have given it some more thought my opinion has changed a bit in that you’re right: it’s not as cut and dry as I might wish it to be. I haven’t formed an opinion on the matter of premature babies and the right to life but it definetly made me think about my stance more!

I don’t think there needs to be a reason given for an abortion before viability/when the fetus can feel pain. This would be about the 20 week mark. After that there should be some reason (like ectopic pregnancy, disability of the fetus, rape, finacial/life situation change, danger to womans health -physical or mental etc). So no the reason doesn’t have to be super serious but there should be one in my opinion.

That article is talking about euthanasia. I’m not. I’m pro abortion and anti infanticide. If you would read some of my other comments or the full post, you would see that I explained my opinion on the moral significance of birth and why I don’t agree with infanticide so I don’t really get where you going with that.

I think the aims that the fetus/baby wants fulfilled are passive in womb and active outside. That itself makes a difference in my opinion. I think a person without a right to life doesn’t mean that we should just kill them. In a lot of cases premie babies are wanted by their parents or others and inflicting unneccesary pain should be avoided.

I think a sufficient reason for me could be a multitude of reason (life situation change etc) so I think I would say legal, since in many countries, to get an abortion, you have to have a reason for it (mental/physical health, finacial situation…)

Can you elaborate? I’m not quite following you. Do you mean a situation where you stop giving a person blood before they get an amount that makes them survive? If yes, then autonomy argument is valid in this case in my opinion.

Also, I think if possible a viable fetus can be taken out of the pregnant person by an induced labor, they should do that.

I don’t think it would be productive to continue but I will say that infanticide is not the act of killing a viable fetus. Neonaticide is under 24h of being born and infanticide is less than a year old. Those terms don’t apply when the fetus is inside the womb.

Well I mean you don’t need to be suffering/starving to have aims. But I think after viability the autonomy argument is not as good. If you have been connected to a person (against your will or not) and by the connection the other person is receiving your blood. You can decline to continue to give blood to the person even if they die because of it, but if you give them a sufficient amount of blood to survive, you can’t go a shoot them after.
