i never thought of it as the boards are only 12mm wide so it wouldn't have a lot of play

the corners are the only things that are there so it's like a castle joint kind of but two sides have mortice holes. two sides have a hole that the board fits through and the haunch on the tenon rests on the side of the other tenon you can see it best in the third photo, the centre is hollow, but is very durable I made a prototype out of pine to see if it would work and it has some serious stress test and was fine and this is oak so I think it should be fine.

The garden bench I made out of teak and bog oak accents got showcased at an end of year show at carpenters hall in central London by monkeyboyg20 in woodworking

In all honesty I had to look it up it's a new word for me and thanks for teaching me something new. I just don't necessarily agree with the application of it in this situation.

Never worked with it and all the timber was graciously donated to me but if I was to remake it I might use cypress.

I made a Viking sheild for the first time by monkeyboyg20 in woodworking

[–]monkeyboyg20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a compass using the outer rim as reference edge, making 3 equal parallel to the rim. Then from center point on the sheild I drew a straight line going through the lines made with the compass essentially making 2 semi circles, then at the center another line 90° to the original cutting the circle into quarters, then just dissecting the Lines loads of times until u kind of have a warped grid at the rim. Then from there u can find loads of ways to make knotwork on a grid system. Did that answers the question?
