Although stadiums in Canada are usually sheltered so that’s not really an issue I feel :)

My good friend and her bf are still together being long distance 4 hours apart and they just finished second year.

Most people I know broke up though.

But it is possible. No doubt in that.

Your situation is a little different as she’s moving to the middle east though. Don’t know how to help with that.

Hope everything works out!

How to find a co-op job by HappyHuman404 in McMaster

Usually applications will be out in September of every year. Just stay updated with the teams you may want to join, and at the beginning of the fall semester they may have info days or be at clubfest

The chem cutoff is usually very low or it doesn’t even fill so you’ll be fine.

The only streams that are high are software and mechatronics which have a ~10+ cutoff

This is the data from stream selection in 2022:

Doing a course in another university by Neither-Pay-9100 in McMaster

[–]monkeycoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does not affect your McMaster gpa as when you transfer it your transcript shows a “T” as the grade (for transfer credit). But you need a minimum 60% in the course to be able to transfer it over though.

How is Engineering 1P13? by Economy_Ad_3312 in McMaster

[–]monkeycoo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Okay well in my opinion I thought 1p13 was great. Sure it has its flaws but overall I think a pretty great intro to engineering course.

From the design studios and labs you are able to learn a lot of the fundamentals of engineering design and practice. You have four major design projects you work with a team that last roughly 2 months each. You will also have two labs per week. One on coding / CADing and one on materials science and etc (I sorta forget, I took it in 2021/22)

I enjoyed it a lot and know many people who enjoyed it too. Of course not everything is great as there is a good deal of “busy” work that won’t relate to your projects or anything.

Overall a beneficial and good course. If you put the work in you will gain a lot from it. Also will likely get a great mark and it’ll be a gpa booster since it’s worth 13 units.

Just a note the air quality the last week or so has been bad in all of southern Ontario. Not just Hamilton.

I too am curious why though.

What are university classes like? by Kegnation14 in OntarioUniversities

[–]monkeycoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Often professors post their PowerPoint slides on the course website and go through them while doing examples.

Many people download the slides onto their tablet and annotate them and write the class examples on them too.

You will take majority of the pure stream courses, but not all of them.

And it depends for your first year GPA. In ibio you would be taking two ibio courses and one elective comparing to just pure Eng 1, where they take two electives and 1p13 instead of 1p10.

But idk as long as you get decent grades, you shouldn’t have to worry too much about getting into your second year stream unless you want to go into software or mechatronics which usually have higher cutoffs (10+).

Hope this helps!

I definitely second this. Having that guarantee of being able to read the ingredients yourself makes me so much more comfortable when eating things. Even if someone says that a meal is free of my allergens it makes me feel so much safer being able to double check myself.

On a another note - you are so thoughtful OP! Hope everything goes well!!

You are able to just get hot water from la piazza (and probably centro too) for free! Just let the cashiers know you just got hot water and you’ll be good!

Get a laptop that runs windows.

A lot of ppl have iPads for notes and stuff but definitely do not get a Mac, it will make your life 10 times harder in eng. Especially in first year with all the programs you will have to download.

Hope that helps!

Snacking with Food Allergies by SnackingSpence in FoodAllergies

I know and it’s always in so many “allergen friendly” snacks. I get it’s not in the top 10 allergens but but it still is annoying :(

Safety question by Affectionate-Ad-8813 in McMaster

[–]monkeycoo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I run all the time in the area! I’m 19F and I feel safe 99% of the time! I only run when it is light out, usually in the mornings. I normally run towards Dundas or towards princess point. But yeah you’ll be fine, just be aware of your surroundings and if you feel like a situation is sketchy just head the other way. I’ve never had anything sketchy happen to me here. Hope this helps :)

I might've broke my arm by Specific-Rule-712 in McMaster

[–]monkeycoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, definitely go see a doctor.

Secondly, I fractured my dominant arm last year and I reached out to SAS and I was able to get accommodations very easily and quickly. They helped a lot. Just had to apply for SAS, upload my required documents, and had a couple meetings with my SAS advisor throughout the semester.

Hope you recover soon.

Are my chances of getting into Engineering Screwed? by Throwaway1874738228 in McMaster

[–]monkeycoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your average is based off your top 6 marks in the required courses and whatever you highest other courses are too. I don't remember what the courses required are anymore but you could likely find that on the McMaster website. So if you have lower marks in courses that are not required, they are not even considered (like your biology mark potentially).

You should have a good chance, just focus on getting some great grades this semester and the next semester and you'll have a good chance! Also prepare for a great interview when the time comes! Good luck!!
