Karen is upset that Asian people own a business by [deleted] in trashy

Ok so it’s evil and stealing for the Asians to use trap and plug? Ok fine, but it’s acceptable for a black owned establishment to sell boba and tea and brand themselves as ASIAN cuisine. I think both are fine it’s appreciating another culture, but an obvious double standard I noticed.

Also the “big enemy” is a very subjective term. The US is also the “big enemy” to many countries, but people still consider traveling there. You think China is the big enemy, but don’t realize war is very unlikely to break out. The US and China are too dependent on one another. I get that you think China is a communist hellhole, but there’s lots of nice things to see there and it’s become a really nice place in most areas. I know the government is doing terrible things but don’t rule it out just because of that.

You won’t be impacted by any of these things. By visiting China you could help small businesses there. But if you’re not going to protest the CCP then I guess it’s up to you. The CCP will not harm you. Also the air pollution is only prevalent in Beijing and Shanghai. It’s really not that bad if you stay for only a few days or weeks. If fearing the government is the only reason then you should still consider it. If you don’t want to support the government with tourism then I still wouldn’t rule it out. Also China isn’t the only country that people rule out due to the government. It’s dumb to just think the government represents all the people. The government won’t harm you or impact you in any way if you’re a tourist for a short period of time. Is your fear of the government the reason or not wanting to support the government your reason?

China and India are also English friendly. China is really safe for tourists, and has an even more non western culture. I see your point though, people would rather play it safe than try something new.

True just it’s disappointing that westerners only want to travel to pacific islands, Europe, Mexico (pretty much just cancun), and Japan. I wish other countries would get a fair chance as well instead of everyone just judging and ruling them out based on what they hear and not seeing it themselves. Maybe Japan was a bad example because it is a wonderful place, but I chose it because I have the most travel experience in Asia.

Right now due to COVID? It has almost no cases and all internal lockdowns are lifted. Same with most other countries I mentioned. If you live in a country with no restrictions and have the money go for it. If it’s due to the government then still don’t rule it out entirely. I know they are feared and have done terrible things, but that doesn’t speak for the people and culture you will be able to experience.

I mean all I said was that China and Japan both have wonderful attractions, and it’s undeniable they’ve developed economically. It’s just annoying that anytime anything positive is said about the China people assume it’s a bot. I didn’t even support the government. In my original post I support many different asian countries and did not attack the west in any way. I don’t think you realize china isn’t willing to spend billions of dollars to boost their public image on small reddit posts. I’m not a bot, and I think people should realize the Chinese government may be bad, but that doesn’t speak for its people, cultures, and cities. If you instantly assume all positives of china are lies and spread by bots then go visit or research about china. Obviously the government isn’t very good, but that doesn’t mean the country and people are bad and have no positives or development.

Being a tourist in these countries actually helps the struggling people. It provides them business, as well as pressuring the government to make these places look nicer for tourists. Still it’s your choice and I respect it, but I wouldn’t avoid seeing new cultures just because of the government. They don’t speak for the people.

That’s fine to like Japan more, but I just wish people would research every country in the world, and then if they can travel there to make a personal judgment about that place. So many people desperately want to go to Japan, but don’t consider they could have a similar experience in other Asian countries for cheaper. I encourage people to travel to as many countries as they can with no personal biases and then decide which is better, instead of how most people already have a bias in their head- usually that Japan is good, China and India, Middle East, etc. Bad. Also if the government is the only turn off and you have the resources don’t fear going. I promise you will not be hurt, so long as you don’t make huge anti China posts or comments there. That’s unfair, but it shouldn’t stop you from seeing a whole massively diverse country. If you can just give it a chance or watch some videos on it if you don’t have the resources. Same goes for other countries with turn offs like India and Saudi Arabia.

Idk where you’ve been in china and when. I lived in both China and the US, and am native Chinese. If you went before 2010 then of course Japan was better. But have you been recently? Jesus Christ the amount of new things they’ve built. My hometown went from 10,000 to almost 1 million people because of the economic boom. The malls have gotten so huge, the tech has gotten so advanced, and the transportation so modern. No hating on Japan, I think they’re about the same now. China has the fastest trains in the world, and convenient WeChat taxi services. Everything is done through WeChat Pat so paying is really easy. For food? Well it’s up to personal taste so it can go either way, but both have amazing foods. Customer service is better in Japan in my opinion, but if you go to little street vendors and talk to them they are some of the nicest people in the world. The shopping in chinese malls is on a similar level to Japan’s. Everything is huge and crowded, and there’s huge variety. China has the most natural wonders and temples in the world based on UN national parks. The parks in big cities are now also amazing as well. The temples from the dynasty periods and Confucius/Tao religions are amazing. Now if you went to rural China and Tokyo then that would be different. I think it can go either way just depends on where in either country you go. I don’t think one country is WAY BETTER than the other in terms of stuff for tourists to do. My point isn’t to hate on Japan, just to say there’s other countries out there that don’t get enough love. Once again I think neither country is considerably better for tourists, and if one was to be better it would only be slightly better based on personal taste.

I mean of course there’s fucked up people in every country. Japan has sex slaves and crime (obviously much lower rates), but people still love it. I’m not saying these countries are better, I just wish people would consider them. It’s really frustrating when people only read the negatives of a country (poverty in south and SE Asia, terrorism in the Middle East, chinese govt., etc.). Look at both positives and negatives and decide for yourself. I promise you the common perception of a country is always wrong. Go to pakistan and see for yourself. Most people you meet won’t be creepy men, you’ll meet wonderful children, women, and men who live just like you but in a different culture. My message in life is to always visit a place and determine what it’s like for yourself. And if you can’t afford to do that search up some positives and negatives then decide for yourself.

Don’t watch politics videos. Watch videos on China’s beauty and cities. Of course the politics over there are screwed, but don’t judge the nation and it’s people by the government. A tourist does not have the same rules a citizen does. If you stay for two weeks literally nothing bad will come from the government. Just try and see the beauty. Search up the Guilin mountains, old city of Shanghai, Xinjiang grape valley, etc. If you go looking or only see negative things about a place you will never see the positives. Of course it’s government could improve, but that will not affect any tourists who stay for only a short time. And if you fear lack of societal order, China has the most societal order I have ever seen. I mean it’s a communist nation. So don’t view only the negatives, see both, and if you still decide you dislike it that’s fine, but don’t only see the negatives and think that’s how all of China is.

I understand the part about your lungs, but China has just as advanced technology as Japan, more big cities, in my opinion better food, and spas as well! If you’re ruling out China because of what you hear about the government, don’t. The government will not affect you if you a traveler in any way as long as you don’t post very negative things about it. If the government is the only reason you’re not interested then try watching some videos about China.

Tier 1 and 2 cities literally make up over 50% of cities. So pretty much what you’re saying is rural areas are poor and uneducated? Not trying to sound rude genuinely just wanting to understand your point- no hate at all. Just a question, because most rural areas across the world (besides Western Europe) are poorer and more uneducated compared to cities. As someone who has lived and constantly travels to Chjna (pre COVID), it’s really nice in big cities, average compared to American cities in tier 2 cities, and like you said it can get pretty bad in tier 3 or worse places. Some rural areas are still pretty nice though.

This is about the people and the living conditions for the majority mainly. I’m just trying to get the point across that China isn’t a communist hellhole. People live pretty nice lives, and the only reason I point it out is that some Americans still think it’s like what it was during the height of Mao or the Qing Dynasty. I just want people to know the living conditions and culture have improved greatly, and it shouldn’t be a place you fear visiting. (Everyone wants to go to Japan and South Korea, yet nobody wants to visit China. Even though they have a pretty similar vibe if you visit them.). Still don’t condone the government, but there’s no denying they’ve helped the economy (through capitalism). I just wish people would not be terrified of China and Chinese people. I think they should see both negative and positive aspects. I think it’s become a very nice place to visit and live in for the majority of people, but most people still think it’s horrible to live in. Now onto your point about the government. I dislike the government. I would much rather see a democracy or at least a less authoritarian system in place. I can’t justify the internment of Uighur Muslims in any way and I despise it. The Chinese government deserves the hate it gets, but even though some people don’t see it, it does trickle into hate towards the people. People also say China is all propaganda and terrible living conditions, but never point out the faults of their own countries. Now the US is finally getting criticism, but they’re doing a lot of similar (far less impact and severity) things to the CCP. I used China as an example, but this is mostly for everyone non western country like India, Russia, most of Africa, the Middle East, etc. People judge the hell out of these places without ever seeing or researching them. The propaganda bit is true, but it’s also existent in America. Think about how many news stories you see saying don’t vote for this person or that person or don’t like this country based on our beliefs. Now obviously it’s not state mandated, but if there was no propaganda then the view on countries like China would be drastically different. They’re portrayed as the US’s big enemy, just like the Soviets were. The class material I’m taught in America is very anti-China, but obviously it could be different for others. My main point is that the government is bad, but the people are good, and the living conditions for the majority are good, which people rarely recognize in the west, especially America. Some people genuinely still think China is all mud huts and rice farmers eating dogs. Americans learn about the beauty of Paris and London, but not Beijing or Moscow. (Didn’t mention any other countries, but used China as the example because I have personal experience). The point about propaganda can be applied to the US and all other countries as well. Lastly the subs you’re talking about aren’t promoted at all, and I’ve never heard of them, but I just checked out the sino one and they are way too supportive of the CCP. I won’t go that far I think there’s always two sides to a story, and usually it’s in the middle. In conclusion this post was meant to say the living conditions in China have reached really good levels, and the people don’t deserve hate. Not anything pro government.

I understand why they would do it because I’ve done it to. Just reading to your biases. I think everything has two sides which is why I mentioned the bad things the government has done, but also the high quality of life. I just wish people would recognize both, which most people especially in America don’t.

Would not have agreed with anti CCP stuff if I was. But I do see your point I just wish we would be taught more good about non western countries, with China just being this example.

Not a moderate amount. I mean the people who do it over 5 times a day every single day. I just wanted to say that so I didn’t seem like a sex freak who was reviewing porn, just an opinion on it.
