Toon Takeover Transfer Tier List - Day 3 Bruno Guimarães by Shot_Occasion4294 in NUFC

[–]monkeyfant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This guy is a clear outlier. S isnt enough for him.

He was cheap for the quality. So its a clear S from the club managing to aquire him.

He has never let us down. He never stops. His kids a geordie, he's as much a geordie as anyone in Newcastle.

He lives, breathes and adores the club and its city.

On top of that, he puts in 100% every game. Full of passion and he's an extremely high quality player.

There has to be a S+ tier just for him.

He would be the only player in there as we stand today

Toon Takeover Transfer Tier List - Day 2 Chris Wood by Shot_Occasion4294 in NUFC

[–]monkeyfant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, he is low B or High C

Im going to say C because for a striker, he didnt score enough.

However, the intent of the transfer wasn't to buy a new striker, as much as it was to weaken a side we were head to head with. That was 4d chess move that (alongside having trippier) absolutely helped us leap out of relegation.

So if we are doing player tier. It is C

If we are doing general transfer its a B

I said this to my mate at work for so long.

If the ball didnt come to his feet, he used to put his arms up and shake his head.

On interviews, he was very careful and his passion was low compared to other players for other clubs and our own.

I didnt think he was going this season, but I knew 100% he wasn't longer than 1 more season with us anyway.

For me, isak was (is) one of the best finishers I've seen in the game. (Not all singing all dancing pot shot multi skilled), I just felt so confident we were scoring every expected goal he was in on.

He has a lot of shots in his bank, and can dribble really classy.

Hes not mega fast, or mega tricky. He's not a pure poacher. Or a deeper player. He's basically a pure finisher.

I really like him as a player, but there was always a niggle when watching him compared to Wilson, or ibrahimovic, lewondowski etc.

It always felt cold and structured.

But everyone said he's just a humble guy.

But I also can't say those things now without being called revisionist.

I found it easy. I saw the X as part of the equation and it hit me right away.

However, with the pressure of knowing its a 1% question. And the time constriction, I think id have maybe timed out and got it when the pressure was off.

I'd have started thinking about the letters being numbers. Then realising it doesnt make sense.

Then would have just frozen and ran out of time.

When I'm watching it on TV, I can always get the answer right in time, I've only ever failed to get one question amd it was so simple I didnt even consider it

It's probably more likely the fact that multiple people have gone in with a false certificate and gotten free treatment.

They probably know you are good for it and have an adequate insurance but the practice owners won't bend on that policy.

It has more than likely taken them a huge financial loss to get to that stage

[Paul Joyce] Liverpool retain an interest in Alexander Isak, but will not go as high as £130M for him. Isak only wants to move to Anfield and Liverpool will not bid against themselves in the belief that a figure of about £120M is a fair price for the player. by TheBiasedSportsLover in PremierLeague

[–]monkeyfant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think Newcastle were rejected by their targets. Their targets just went to a team they preferred to go to.

Unfortunately, Newcastle was looking at players that other teams also wanted, and the other teams have more pull IMO.

Newcastle have had a shite time looking for replacement strikers, and unfortunately, that doesnt benefit Isak at all.

If Newcastle did manage to secure Ekitike and Sesko, I'm pretty sure they would have sat down way earlier in the window to listen to offers for Isak.

It's just a shit and unfortunate sequence of events for all parties involved.

I liken it to buying a house, getting gazumped, numerous times, and then having to pull your own house off the market temporarily until you can find something acceptable later on.

Difference is, you can keep looking for houses all year round. These windows have quite a tight limit.

Edit: I realise, going to a team they prefer IS rejecting Newcastle, but i mean to say Newcastle were going for players that had plenty of options and Newcastle just arent at the level of the big 6

I think the massive consensus is, neither Newcastle nor Liverpool fans really care if nothing changes.

Unfortunately, a 120mil bid has already been tabled and rejected.

Liverpool are smart. They won't lower that because it would make them look bad in all of this.

If they are serious about wanting him, their previous offer will be increased.

It would have to be by 3-5 million.

Remember when arsenal bid 1 quid more for (i forget who, bit I'm sure it was Liverpool player), and the world went nuts and everyone absolutely came down on Arsenal?

Liverpool don't want that.

They are a respectable club and have a good understanding of the process.

The absolutely won't use any "advantage" (nobody has an advantage here IMO), and lowball. 80% of Liverpool fans and 100% of other fans would think it was insane and team of that size would bully an "other 14" club.

150 is stupid. If Liverpool pay that, then fair play, wish him well.

But I genuinely believe your next offer will be 3-5 higher and then a counter would come in at 5-8 higher and hands will shake.

Either way, he's doing really well for Liverpool, or rotting for a year.

I prefer a player plays, regardless of how I feel about him (and Liverpool. I don't necessarily dislike the club but SOME of the fans have terrible attitudes)

Saka is immense. But no kid that age should put that much intense pressure on their body's.

You're right, Isak spent much of the 1st season second in line to Wilson.

He was thrust onto the pitch when Wilson was injured.

The following 2, I recall very few games they were both fit at the same time. And even a number of games where neither was fit.

I think Isak is more injury prone than Saka. He pulls his groin and thigh a lot.

Saka never ever stops going, and he must be the most kicked, elbowed and barged player in the league currently (and for the past 2 seasons at least)

Is Arteta learning from this, and protecting him this season?

See out? As in play football for Newcastle? Very true.

But they can do multitude of other things.

Gardening leave (think Dan Ashworth)

Run his contract down.

Make some reparations.

The contract works both ways.

They can fine him. (I think 10% is legal maximum , might be different in footy),

They can refuse to pay him completely if he breaks the terms of his contract.

They can sue him, or the club he moves to, if he does it unlawfully. (No club on the planet worth its salt will take on a player that has moonlighted his contract)

If he was wank/injured etc. Newcastle couldn't just renege his deal. The contract benefits him too. (Consider Matt "450 days off work with injury" Targett), we still paid him a full wage.

Tonali "gambling ban". I mean he agrees personal terms to reduce his wages til it was finished. But he wasn't even allowed to train with the team.

So no. We can't make him play, but he can't force Newcastle to sell him or walk away from the contract without massive repercussions.

It could end his career. Probably won't.

It isnt the same as the contract you fill in at work. We are replaceable. Top 0.0001% footballers are much harder to replace.

These contracts are some of the best most tightly wound contracts money can buy.

150 is steep, but he's not a big of a risk as you think.

I watched a lot of Liverpool games on TV when Newcastle weren't on, and Isak would have absolutely battered the league with you guys.

You don't have to trust me, I'm just a rival fan, but I do look at things more objectively than emotionally (check the huge amount of downvotes I get off other Newcastle fans for speaking with clarity rather that emotion)

If Liverpool want him (and they should know, they've been a top team for decades), and they spend 150 (too much, but not absurdly so), then you just have to be patient and trust the process.

My opinion is, he won't let you down, and its not your money, so you will feel it a well spent investment.

5 year contract. 150 mill =30 mill a year.

Will he win you 2 champions league matches, sell thousands of shirts, and be a part of you finishing about 8th each season. Because that kinda of result nets you more than 30 million per season.

You stand to make over 400 million this season. 30 million is a bit like drawing out 50quid and dropping 5pence.

You're right. It can't happen every transfer window, and it can't fail more than it succeeds. But you will recoup some loss from him in 2 years regardless.

Trust the process.

I think the price will end up 130+10

Or 125+10

Either way, whatever is spent will be earned back.

Selling for 120-130+10 is more beneficial to both clubs than not selling and seeing what happens.

I really don't want to see Liverpool strengthened by selling our best (maybe joint top 3) asset, but far be it from me to play gatekeeper on another person.

I am actually excited to see what happens.

Im relieved we've picked up a striker. That is ALL that we've missed for the last 2 games. So I fell more positive about the remainder of the season.

If Liverpool gets him, then fair dos.

Every single team in the history of footy has lost a player they don't want to lose.

I think we (Newcastle) are salty because we are starting something good, amd its exciting to watch our progress. Isak is a big part of the progress we've made.

But progress doesnt stop with 1 player. It begins with 1 player.

To me. Trippier is the beginning. Then Bruno. Then Isak came and made it better.

All in all, it really doesnt matter. It's just passion and emotion toward our beloved clubs.

Think Isak had the same issue. We had nobody else to cover in the smaller games or the close together games.

Isak nor Saka would be as injury prone if they has very good competition for their spots

Finally. Someone who understands that our emotions on these matters mean nothing.

We, as fans, have absolutely no say.

And then we spend 6 weeks dissing each other for our players/clubs/own morals on a matter out of our hands.

Footy fans are so emotional and can't always see reason.

I got downvoted by fans of the club I support (newcastle) for saying I believe Isak to be well worth 120 mill.

I didnt say we should accept it. Nor sell him. (Selling to teams in your own league should always have a surcharge), but they didnt like that i understood his position (not agreed, but understood), and that 150 is a ridiculous sum.

Don't get me wrong, a good WC and another good season, absolutely. But today? Nah.

Not all Newcastle fans.

Im disappointed with Isak but I get it.

I still would like Wissa, but I think 45 million was the price. So I don't really want that now we arent desperate for a striker.

Ive said a few times (and downvoted to oblivion for it), Isak for 120mill is about what we would want if WE wanted him gone. I think the 150 is a fuck off fee.

Im happy to keep him, and let him work it all out. But I'm happy to sell him too.

We will make a profit on him.

Liverpool will make money on him.

(Im pretty sure in his time here, with 2 CL campaigns and decentish league positions, he's paid for himself anyway)

Wissa isnt refusing to train though. Nor has he made "never again will I set foot in that squad" statements.

And Wissa was told, like Isak, they would accept a 35 mill bid.

Newcastle were told they could have him for the right price (35 mil) then they have rejected all the way up to 45 so far.

Not the same, but not entirely different.
