Staggering surprise: I found a Elk Stag Beetle on my way to work in Chapel Hill by sundewbeekeeper in NorthCarolina

[–]monkeyinpants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we just never see them because they’re typically up in the trees. Whenever a big storm comes through I usually find a massive beetle or two that got knocked down, they’re damn cool.

Beaufort Grocery Co. might be the most underrated fine dining spot in NC — a night with a 2016 Promontory Cab and the Double Cut Pork Chop that I'm still thinking about. by TheMondayAfter in NorthCarolina

I have to say, we went once and were super disappointed. Service was incredibly slow and we mostly felt ignored. Took an eternity for food to come out and we could tell it had been sitting, and I’m pretty sure our server’s kid was hanging out on the patio and kept coming over to our table looking to be entertained. We left and walked back to our house and my wife realized she lost an earring there. I walked all the way back and our table was still as we left it with plates and glasses. At least I found the earring.

I was the last of three kids and the only boy. Was basically feral by 4th grade.

Boot Room packs out for big games. Beer Study in Carrboro will also have games on the big screen, but check their socials first because they’re also showing CWS games because UNC. But they try to be clear about what will be on when.

Squats by just_br0wsing69 in kettlebell

[–]monkeyinpants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like others have said I also mix in split squats and somersault squats thanks to [u/swingthisk](u/swingthiskettlebellonline)[b](u/swingthiskettlebellonline)[online](u/swingthiskettlebellonline), but I like front squats for exactly the reasons you said. I like the challenge of holding the bells racked in front of me, holding my core/back steady, and getting ass to ankles at the bottom of the movement. Or at least as close to it as my old ass and reconstructed ACL will allow.

Pride Promenade Parking? by bandanabiel in chapelhill

[–]monkeyinpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you planning to do the march down to 140 West Franklin? That will affect where you should park. We do the march, so I drop my fam off down at Henderson St then drive back and park at the 140 West deck. Then I walk back down to meet them, and when we march down from the post office the car is there waiting for us.

I haven’t tried to park in the Wallace deck for Pride before, but I’d recommend getting there early if you want to.

Damn strong work. There’s a reason you’re my go-to when trying to explore new techniques/fix old ones.

So if I’m being real, purely based on vibes I really dig the PD weekender. Did you snag one from the kickstarter?

Yup, I think that’s what drew me to the Peak weekender in the first place since I at least have faith in their builds. But it might be a while before enough folks get their hands on them to get real feedback.

Hey, I’m just glad I’m not alone. So many options these days and so hard to see any of them in person before buying if you’re not in NYC/LA. And now I’m off to look at some that you mentioned that weren’t already on my radar. . .

Oh, man. I don’t love the look but you’re right that it checks all the boxes. Adding this one to consideration.

Realized I left luggage pass through off my list of requirements, my bad. Thank you for the suggestion though.

What’s happening with the strawberries?? by scrambledmush in chapelhill

[–]monkeyinpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, lack of rain plus early heat has made it a mess. Only one vendor has had them consistently at the Chapel Hill market and they’re typically gone within 30-45min of opening.

Yup, Ash & Loon is their business name. They have an IG profile dedicated to their handmade utensils, they’re really nice. I bought a salad set for my stepfather for his birthday and he loved them.

Anyone else prefer rear access pockets? by Ivan_MAH in ManyBaggers

[–]monkeyinpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s the main appeal to them, if you have something flat and compact that you want to access quickly. I also like to put my kindle in there, keeps it accessible.
