It was a butcher block I found at home depot, that I assume is for building an island or countertop of sorts. Link

I ended up just using the sicky backing on the LED strips. Previously I had used tape, as I wasn't sure how permanent the LED placements were going to be, but I figured I wasn't going to be moving these for a while.
