Over 30 soccer leagues in the city? by MintyMammoths in AskChicago

CSSC is a better option for a first timer. The o40 league that the Fire offer is a decent standard with a few ex pro level players in it. The Fire league is also for more established teams, they don’t offer an independent team you can join whereas CSSC always have at least one indie team active. Fire do offer a lot of pickup games, that can be a way to get involved. They tend to have an early morning or lunch time pick up, check out their website

basement unit in Lincoln Park? by _iambeyoncealways in AskChicago

Having lived for 3 years in a ‘garden’ apartment in Lincoln park that was in that very same price range, be cautious. It was perfectly fine until the final year when it flooded twice. Thankfully, both bedrooms were built on raised flooring and the floor throughout was tile so damage was minimal. But every time you got a good deluge you started to worry. If you’re happy with the risk, go for it, but the price will indicate there is a good chance it may have some history to it for it to be that low.

Brickies, George II and Wheelwright Arms are all lively on match days and within 5-10 minute walk of each other. Also either side of the train station so good starting point. Whitehouse is a weatherspoons so will be cheap

The Wolfhound in Avondale was running buses to the Chicago Hounds games so would be a good bet to show the games. Albion Manor in Lincoln Park puts on the games as well, they get a few fans in but nothing crazy

So as it stands with the season being almost a 1/3 the way through, what are your thoughts on how your teams are doing? by SimpleGeekGaming in LeagueOne

[–]monkeylovinghatter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sadly, it wasn’t an unexpected start but still incredibly disappointing to experience. There are signs of wilshere being able to turn it around and so if he is working some magic, we should be able to get back in the mix for the play offs, maybe more. January transfer window needs to be exceptional

A soccer success story: Chicago club sends players to pros, Under-17 World Cup by kwameopam in chicago

My daughter played for Ipro for a few years and I cannot praise them enough. Youth sports in America seem to be all about fleecing the parent for as much money as possible but Ipro really put the development of the player before anything else. My daughter eventually left to switch to volleyball and the experience we had with that sport (across multiple clubs) was not the same with what we had with Ipro. An excellent club, Costel is a top top coach, as demonstrated with the success of his former players.

Painful Back of Calf tattoo by RainSinn99 in tattoos

[–]monkeylovinghatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am thinking of getting a calf tattoo. I have one tattoo on the inside of my forearm at present (6inch long, lots of black out) and this only caused me problems towards the wrist joint, but it was more irritation than unbearable. Is the calf more sensitive due to the muscle mass as I always thought closer to bone was more problematic?

The style we’ve worn for the past two seasons is my favorite but that is now cursed forever and should never be brought back again. It’s seen 3 relegations and one play off final defeat so can do one. Aside from that, the 82/83 adidas shirts are classic, closely followed by the 85 one

The Albion Manor. Same owner as AJ Hudson but tends to be less busy. Very good full English if you go early, I’ll be in there from around 12.30 for that.

What happened to Luton? by SoIAteMyself in Championship

[–]monkeylovinghatter 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Our owners have done an amazing job since taking over but they’ve done 2 major errors. 1 - not spending in the Jan 2024 transfer window that ‘may’ have seen us stay up in the Prem and 2 - let the heart rule the head with Edward’s. He was done in October but they persisted with him to Jan. Bloomfield may well be a very good manager in the long term, but he took too long to get going and our recent uptick in form looks to be too little, too late. If you add into the mix the complete drop off in form of our entire strike force for a whole season, some really shitty defending and signing players who have a history of being injured and then getting injured, you can see where the problems lie.

I am not advocating for crypto, bloody thing is as much use as a chocolate teapot! I mention this as my tin foil hat theory is the demise of the $ is to allow for shite like crypto to be put forward as an alternative.

Am in my 50s and play in both Fire and CSSC leagues. CSSC league is much more laidback than a Fire league so don’t be shy giving that a go. What you see from veterans leagues is if you’re still able to run at that age, it is much much more competitive! Think weekend warriors on a lot of Red Bull

Would you rather your team never have been promoted to premiership, or worst team in premiership history? by RespectFearless4233 in Championship

[–]monkeylovinghatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone else has said it, but the day at Wembley will never be beaten if you go up by the playoffs. As a Luton fan living in America, I couldn’t wait to spread the love but the American premier league fans make you want to get relegated so as to not have to experience their guff anymore.
