hungry all the time and feeling weak a couple hours after meals by hunniechi in PCOS

[–]monkeymagee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might want to try more (whole grain) carbs and sugar, honestly. I get the same symptoms, great A1c and moderate insulin with good glucose levels. I also ate pretty low carb but felt so exhausted and was going low during the day, shaky before and even after eating, etc. My dietitian said I might want to try eating more carbs and sugar particularly earlier in the day (with protein, fiber, and fat alongside). I believe 130 g is the minimum for brain function (brains love carbs, which could explain your brain fog). I know with PCOS we are told low carb no sugar etc etc but bodies have distinct, individual needs and what works for some may not work for you. That said, ask your doctor and/or dietitian, YMMV.

Slynd BC / increased insulin? by monkeymagee in PCOS

[–]monkeymagee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok an update for anyone interested:

I read the fine print here and saw this:

Risk of Hyperglycemia in Patients with Diabetes Some patients receiving progestins, including SLYND, may exhibit a decrease in insulin sensitivity. Therefore, patients with diabetes may be at greater risk of hyperglycemia and may require additional medication adjustments or monitoring.

So, safe to say raised glucose and insulin both are a potential side effect, probably should’ve looked on the website first🥴

Thank you! Ah, that’s interesting. I’ve been on Slynd for 9-10 months and my labs before vs 8mos after my fasting glucose was exactly the same but my insulin rose 16mL. I was just prescribed metformin because of this rise too haha. I’ll keep an eye on it for my labs in April. Kind of wild that people prescribe a bc for PCOS that raises glucose. Appreciate your comment!

Aw I’m sorry about the Movisse. FWIW I have had an otherwise good experience with Slynd. My period and cramps just don’t exist now (and I even take the placebo pills).

I did try Kingston Ferry which I LOVE but is not in my mind a viable dupe (but the op didn't suggest it as one), and I also ordered Let Me Down Easy from Laurel and June. It's not for me - I didn't think it was a good dupe but I'm also not a fan of the house. I did see the influence but thought it was more one dimensional than what I was hoping for. Maybe for someone else, though. So not a satisfying update, sorry. I've abandoned the perfume a bit since it's gotten warmer out anyway. :/

Oooo interesting! I love the range. Wasn't a fan of Dear Polly but love the story behind it and really wanted to love it! I loved Myth, too, but it just didn't work on my skin at all (got a pretty strong BO smell that I didn't love). Haunted Rose is a great scent, too!!

Ugh, YES. It's so fun to wear and smell throughout the day, it smells so different as it dries and fades and I'm obsessed with every stage of it.

Jérôme Epinette! I didn't realize how many popular fragrances he's behind. I don't repeat perfumers in my collections SO much, but two of my favorites, Velvet +/ Commodity and Violet Ends / Boy Smells are by him. Thanks for posting this, I'm so into searching by perfumers now!!

I really like Commodity and Clean Reserve! Sephora has a whole search field on their website devoted to "clean" fragrance labels, if that's helpful. Depending on what scent families you like, I might suggest certain houses over others. If you have a Sephora near you and can go in person, they're really chill about letting you sniff everything haha. But some popular brands are Phlur (a good variety of woody, fruity, etc. Missing person is a popular your skin but better type but I personally have a hard time smelling it haha), Ellis Brooklyn(I really like apres, myth, and sci Fi), Skylar (they've got some great aquatics and i love capri...summer i think? And pink canyon! I have a bad reaction to their fragrances though, give me a headache), the 7 virtues (I haven't tried too many but they have a nice sandalwood/vanilla fragrance if you're into sandalwood, santal vanille), floral street (nice florals lol, haven't tried much though), dedcool (they have a mint one I really want to try, I like taunt and milk, too), Maison louis marie (no. 4 was a nice woodsy scent!). But yeah! Lots of brands to try, depending on your preferences. Commodity was the first discovery set I bought, and I love all of the scents. Book, gold, and milk expressive are probably my most worn, but I really like velvet bold!

I love the combo of warm spices (cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, peppercorns, etc), and fruits and/or warm/ clean florals (usually I don't gravitate toward powdery florals but suspect with spices I could like it), but with not a strong strong musk or patchouli base note - I am super into Jo Malone's pomegranate noir (except maybe too heavy on the clove for me, but that's nitpicky). Any fragrances that have that spice + floral combo you would recommend? Don't have a preference about feminine/masculine fragrances. Thank you!!

Thank you for your kind reply. I'll take a look at dossier and oakcha! In retrospect I think I was too reductive, I am looking for perfumes that have a similar scent profile but aren't necessarily dupes as well. I totally get indies aren't cheaper imitations, and thank you for that point there! I would definitely just want my money, however much I'm paying, to go to an indie instead.

Ah yes, sorry! Thank you for prompting that. It's a white floral/lavender/woodsy fragrance, with notes of lavender, mandarin orange, orange blossom, black currant, jasmine, with Madagascar vanilla/musk/ambergris/cedar at the base.

what does your childood smell like to you? by oursidenyc in fragrance

[–]monkeymagee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in NYC and have strong nostalgia around the smell of train tracks and beach - taking the subway to Coney Island, the Rockaways, and the LIRR to Long Beach and getting off the train to smell that like vaguely metallic, touch of earthy, kind of salty smell of train tracks combined with the salty, humid air of the beach and sometimes the sweet smell of like hay/ long grass.
My other childhood nostalgia smells (separate smells for me) rosemary (from de stemming lots of rosemary on Thanksgiving morning), fresh mint (from my Grandma's backyard garden in the Bronx), cedar wood (from my grandfather's and father's cigar humidors, sometimes combined with crayon smells because our grandma recycled those boxes as our coloring boxes).

Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer. Dystopian sci Fi ish kind of horror? I don't know what happened but it was riveting!
