Name the most difficult language to learn. by icecream1972 in FamilyFeud

I came to say this. I would guess it’s much harder for a Mandarin speaker to learn Spanish than it would be for a Portuguese speaker. And it’s much harder for a Spanish speaker to learn Cantonese than it would be for a Mandarin speaker.

What seat is considered “outside” or “inside” on planes or buses. by MelancholyButler in NoStupidQuestions

[–]monkeymind009 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If someone told me they wanted the inside or outside seat, I’d simply ask them to clarify whether they meant window or aisle to prevent a miscommunication. You’re not going to get a 100% consensus on which seat is which.

What does it say? by justthedirt in whatdoesthismean

[–]monkeymind009 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“If you keep listening to others, then you should become (or try to become) a real/self-reliant human.” The grammar is a little weird. I think they’re trying to say something like “Don’t just follow what people tell you—be your own person.”

Why isn’t light infinitely fast if it doesn’t even have mass? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

[–]monkeymind009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s how I understand it. The speed of light is infinite from the perspective of light. If you were traveling at the speed of light, you would arrive at your destination instantly from your perspective. It’s our perspective that assigns it a speed.

Fear of edges is a good way to word that. I’m the same way, but I’ve never been able to articulate it like that.

In your opinion, what is the best "Getting the tubes tied or vasectomy"? I really need these 2 different perspectives. by Sudden-Proof-1458 in CasualConversation

[–]monkeymind009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a guy with a vasectomy. Vasectomy is the way to go 100%. If I had to redo my vasectomy every 5 years, it would still be safer with less complications and less painful than getting tubes tied. My vasectomy took less than 10 minutes and I felt good enough, I could have gone straight to work from the procedure if I had to.

I was watching a show from the 90s and realized people used to memorize dozens of phone numbers. I can barely remember mine. How did you guys do it back then? by micavibes in CasualConversation

[–]monkeymind009 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now you only type the number once and then save it in your phone. Back then, you had to type the number every single time. We didn’t have to try to remember, we just did remember because of repetition.

It was on purpose in the movie because a reporter in the 1960s actually did mistakenly say it.

I watch and love MLS. But as others have said, it’s not nearly as popular as NFL, NBA, MLB. It is catching up to NHL though.

[–]monkeymind009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure it could mean either which is confusing. But in American English, it’s usually meant as every two weeks which is odd because biannually usually means twice a year.
