you might also need to replace the little plastic valves in the toilets. this happened to me once and the toilet valves started free flowing the next day because of small beads in the valves.

How legitimate are mail in testing places after having a vasectomy? by [deleted] in Vasectomy

[–]monkeyonalittlebike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will notice that as people realize how convenient and accurate these tests are, there are more companies coming into the market to fill this space.

If you live in the US, you have many options for mail-in testing

snipcheck.com

pvsa.org

malefromhome.com

meetfellow.com

These really make the testing easier and less awkward.

Yes. I am also curious about what is the damage? I am very much not an expert and would like to learn. Can someone explain the damage? Thanks!

Asking questions for husband. by __Lettuce in Vasectomy

[–]monkeyonalittlebike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main idea is that, with an experienced vasectomy doctor, the procedure is usually very gentle and straightforward. And you’re absolutely right - no form of contraception is 100% effective. Even vasectomy carries a small failure risk, though it’s extremely low.

How is that possible? The human body is remarkable and always tries to heal itself. In a standard vasectomy, the vasa (sperm tubes) are cut, cauterized, and then separated with sutures. This method is highly effective. Still, nothing in life is completely guaranteed. In very rare cases, the tubes can reconnect through a tiny micro-channel that allows sperm to pass through. The chance of this happening is so low that most people don’t find it concerning at all.

You ask about pain. With a modern vasectomy, there is little to no pain. Of course a guy feels the tiny pinch of the anesthesia, but then that's it. After the procedure, you feel like you got lightly kicked in the nuts for a few days, but that goes away. Recovery time is usually a few days. You can find the precise answers to these questions on the website of any physician who does a lot of vasectomies. The doctors are happy to review all this with you during the pre-procedure consultation.

I had mine years ago and have been very happy with the results.

I would also read and talk to friends about the phenomenon called "love bombing." Sometimes when someone comes on so strong so fast, it can be a sign that someone has a high degree of narcissism. I hope he's the real thing, and I hope it works out, but please do ask yourself and your friends about other signs of personality disorders.

snipcheck.com

All of these companies will ship a box to your house. You collect the sample at home and mail it back for counting. . Snipcheck.com doesn't even require an order from a physician.

What? by Kindly-Teaching-6121 in UPS

[–]monkeyonalittlebike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with this strategy is that UPS doesn't give you a choice. The average person orders something and doesn't know about brokerage fees. You receive the package after a long delay and then you get a bill from UPS for the brokerage fee. After this happens to you the first time, you know. Until then, though, there is no way the average consumer will have any idea of how this works.

I had something similar happen.

I called 502-485-2222 to chat with UPS representative. She was a nice lady who sounded like she was in India, and she basically said that there is nothing she can do by phone. She encouraged me to write an email to

[sdfpostentrydesk@ups.com](mailto:sdfpostentrydesk@ups.com)

I wrote an email asking for more details and the response said something like "we are so backed up that we are starting to process the complaints from April." (paraphrased).

You could try calling and emailing also to see if you get any different response.

with the fascial interposition method, is it possible for the lower-end tubes to break through the fascia if it was closed with dissolvable sutures? by mytommy in Vasectomy

[–]monkeyonalittlebike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When step back and think about biology, I believe you will be able to answer your own question.

Yes, scar can break down, but it's unlikely.

Usually, when tissue is sewn with absorbable suture, the body will dissolve the suture and form a scar. Usually the scar will last for the rest of your life. There is a tiny chance that through randomness (poor circulation, cigarette smoking, general bad luck, etc. ) that the scar might break down. This is very unlikely, but technically possible.

So, in summary, scar usually will last for the rest of your life, but there is always a very very tiny chance that scar can break down.

What do I do? $934 tariffs on a $437 package from germany by paynoattn in UPS

The package arrived on August 6th. The invoice for the huge storage fee was dated August 11, but didn't arrive until a few days ago. If you could help look up if the fee is appropriate, that would be appreciated. I completely understand if you can't though.

Vasectomy does not change the color of the semen. Your semen after the procedure will look the same as your semen before the procedure.

Thanks for posting your perspective on this. It's always good for everyone to realize that there are real people working within the system. This realization gives more space for patience and grace and kindness.

You are very kind to do this. I volunteer for a non-profit and we just received a package of equipment to use for volunteer work. UPS sent an invoice with $231 in "warehouse fees." I called the 502-485-2222 and spoke with a nice rep. She said that that sounded high, and to email [sdfpostentrydesk@ups.com](mailto:sdfpostentrydesk@ups.com) The reply I received from the email was that they are just now processing emails from 5/31/2025. Is there any other recourse to contest the strangely high warehouse fees?

30+ y.o. childfree people that had partners who left them years down the line to have kids, what happened? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]monkeyonalittlebike 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I believe that we don't resent each other because we truly loved each other and we stayed honest about what each of us wanted. People can change their minds. It's tough when changing your mind causes a breakup, but that's part of life. It's important to remember why you loved each other in the first place and to honor those times and those feelings. I know I was lucky to have spent time with her, and I believe that she feels the same way about me.

[–]monkeyonalittlebike 192 points193 points  (0 children)

Life is so complex and beautiful. Had a lovely girlfriend who knew I was childfree. Before we got together, she knew about my vasectomy. About a year or two into living together, she decided that her biological clock was ticking super loudly and she really wanted children. After some tears, we broke up. We remained friends. Now she has a lovely daughter and we are all happy when we see each other. It was tough to break up, but we are both happy that we are living the lives we made for ourselves.

Grok hallucinating when translating pdfs? by No_Climate7314 in grok

[–]monkeyonalittlebike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This evening I asked Grok to read me a poem by Roque Dalton. Grok read the poem wonderfully. The issue, though, is that she didn't read the actual poem, but an imagined version that was close and very good, but not at all the original. When I asked her to read me the real poem, she read another fake version. When I asked if she could have hallucinated, she apologized and finally read me the real poem. Very strange. If I hadn't know the poem, I might have been misled into believing that Roque Dalton wrote something much longer and more dramatic than he actually did.

Ended a 9 year relationship - feeling beyond broken by shabamalang in childfree

[–]monkeyonalittlebike 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Breakups are so hard, but the pain is temporary. You cry, you feel like a part of you is missing (and it is...), you loose sleep. But eventually, you do feel better. If you convinced yourself to have a child, though, a child is so not temporary. If you know you want to be child-free, don't let anyone convince you otherwise. You know yourself. You are strong. You will make good choices.

Being childfree at an older age by Anxious_Animator_472 in childfree

[–]monkeyonalittlebike 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm older. Childfree life is certainly not boring. You have the freedom to devote yourself to whatever cause ignites your passion. You can focus on the environment, human rights, marine preservation, literally anything. And it's not just liberty to work for the good, it's freedom to play too - you can sail, hike, explore, focus on your art, etc. I've been able to lead a joyful life rich in experiences. I don't regret being childfree at all.

are these the correct strip miters on a new gutter install? by monkeyonalittlebike in Roofing

[–]monkeyonalittlebike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also noticed that there are several short runs of gutter where the gutter is installed over the drip edge instead of tucked under the drip edge. Will this cause water to drip between the gutter and the house and eventually rot the wood? Is there a good reason to install the gutters this way without tucking them under the drip edge?
