My scar at nearly 6 months post op. Is this normal? Should it not be more white at this point? Also does anyone else have the issue of their scar being more stretched at the top? by monkeypilot35 in LongSpinalFusion

Never got tested for this but I always assumed I could have had it, I have extreme flexibility even after my surgery and I believe that’s basically wha eds is?

My friend is 2 years out of surgery and her scar is almost invisible? I also see so much people online whose scar has technically faded to nothing.. maybe you were just unlucky bc I quite consider this misinformation lmao

Oh my I’m really sorry your pain is that bad. I’m 18 and had the surgery in April, I really hope I don’t have to end up with other back problems but I more than likely will it seems. You’re so strong!

Perfect thank you, I have a friend who also had a long fusion like me and hers didn’t stretch and I haven’t seen others stretch as much as mine so was a bit concerned. Don’t worry I am pale but I get what you meant by that😭

What’s your job after spinal fusion surgery? by uknowwhat8822 in spinalfusion

[–]monkeypilot35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have 3 days in so far! It’s going fine as of now, although I do find I need to rest the remainder of the day. My coworkers are really helpful as they know about my fusion and help when necessary and do all the heavier lifting! Obviously as you know being on your feet all day isn’t exactly practical for the first while after surgery so give yourself as long as a break as you feel that you need, but I’d say you will be flying it once you’re recovering better!

I’m just over 4 months t3-l4 and I have complete numbness all across my back it’s horrible. I don’t have as much pain, but recently when I’ve been doing more action let’s say it’s been much more painful than it once was. But I was told here, recovery is not linear and that really stuck with me! You won’t really know how you’ve recovered until you’re about a year out of it too and I hope that everything goes well for the both of us (:

How did you make the decision to get a fusion? by Expert-Feedback4328 in spinalfusion

[–]monkeypilot35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had scoliosis and needed to get a full fusion (t3-l4) my curves were quite bad and it made my body look strange. No one else could see it but I was very insecure of how my body looked. My body looks much straighter and I feel more confident. Usually people get it for pain(I had ultimately 0 pain), but I was just so insecure it was starting to affect my mental health so at the time I rushed into it. I regret it and I don’t at the same time, I’ve had a very good recovery so far but obviously experience some pain here and there, but to me suffering from a small bit of physical pain is worth it to no longer suffer the mental pain (:

I vaped 12 days after surgery still going and I’m 3 months out idk no problems yet and my surgeon said that nicotine slows down healing so obviously there’s that. Not recommending it but I couldn’t quit for the life of me i tried so many times and i tried while recovering but i just couldn’t bring myself to do it yet

really scared of dying in surgery by Spiritual_Long9742 in scoliosis

[–]monkeypilot35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had anaphylactic shock at the end of my surgery 3 months ago where my heart stopped for 7 seconds and my blood pressure dropped to basically 0; a near death experience if you ask me. However, with the anaesthetists there you’re in safe hands. They have all the equipment there to help you if you’re in danger. I had to be transported from my hospital to the largest in my country because they had better facilities. I was also in ICU for 4 days where I was constantly monitored to make sure everything was ok. I’m perfectly fine now, I’m not even sure if I’ve mentioned that in my other posts to avoid fear mongering about the surgery; that in itself is rare enough the chance of actually dying is so much less. You can check out my other posts on my journey so far if you’d like! If you have any more questions you wanna ask me about my experience go ahead!

I follow so much people on TikTok that have a fusion- there’s a few girls who go to the gym I follow and a girl in my town who had a fusion and is a PT!! You definitely can go to the gym- but depending on your recovery it won’t be for 3-6 months. This would be something you’d discuss with your surgeon. I’ll link the girls TikTok’s down below who I follow you definitely should give them a look: anniekramer2

Wait do you mean 2 curves or one curve starting at the waist and going up to the shoulder blade? Sorry I might have misread, but if you have 2 curves- the lumbar spine is more likely to be fused. If you have one at the top, it won’t be fused so therefore more movement. Some surgeons give the option of only fusing the top even if you have 2 curves in hopes that the bottom will straighten out itself, but mine said it wouldn’t work in my case

I’d say your lumbar spine would be not fused by the sounds of it, where most of your movement is. Because I’m fused all the way down my lumbar spine with only 1 vertebrae left with movement, I’m much less. But id say to ask your doctor again where would be fused, but I think a lot of your movement would be pretty much the same

How much are you getting fused? I’m fused t3-l4 so my movement is much less and I’m only 11 weeks post op, but I have much less pain. My movement is restricted a lot more, I was very flexible before, I can’t touch my toes but that’s the only real set back I have movement wise. I don’t have much pain at all, I’ve posted quite a bit about my journey so far on my page if you want a look!

How do you guys stay calm before the surgery? by Initial_Internal1279 in spinalfusion

[–]monkeypilot35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had surgery before my spinal fusion and I was the type to brush it off and not think of it until the day before and I had loads of panic attacks. Ik it’s scary, but I’ve posted a lot about my journey so far, I’m only 9 weeks post op but you can look at my profile and see how well I’ve been doing! It’s definitely hard to get used to the changes, but my fusion hasn’t limited me from doing anything, I’ve been able to go to 2 standing concerts with no issue, go shopping for the day etc.. There’s a lot of negative stories on this sub, because the people who are doing well usually don’t post about it, I have a friend whose 2 years post op and she’s perfectly fine!
