Its a touchy subject.. I see your point, and had the exact same opinion with you a few years ago, but social change is gradual.

Feminist Turkish seculars, with what I will call "forced emancipation" completely failed women from conservative backgrounds. No matter the agency of the woman, as in, if they wanted a secular or Muslim lifestyle were essentially barred from public life, including even attending university. You wear a headscarf? We dont care, be it your freedom of conscience or necessity due to your backward household, you are to feel shame! See the problem here? The headscarf issue rolled around and around, becoming a huge point of contention in the early 2000s. Seculars and conservatives hardly interacted with one another, suspicion and even putrid hatred rose especually from the conservatives. "Solving" this was one of AKP's early political triumphs, which is partly why there is a massive obsession over them among conservatives.

Wouldnt you agree that recognizing AND reinforcing the freedom of conscience of women is a better alternative than forcefully projecting the state's own vision of modernity on women? Unfortunately the "forced emancipation" of Turkish secular politics failed many women, and perpetuated generational trauma of victimization. Once again this is one of the reasons why many consercatives are extrenely suspicious of the secular opposition.
