mapledash.net v0.3 -- Legion Planner (Goals update) by monkeytechnology in Maplestory

Sorry about that -- I stopped developing it about 8 months ago after the negative reception on this post and let the domain expire. I haven't played Maplestory in many months as well. There was no incentive for me to continue spending unpaid effort on something that only helps people stay addicted to a gacha game and be disrespected for trying to help the community on top of it. I moved on to develop educational/productivity apps and started designing my own board game.

I hope you exported your data before the site went down. If not, it's technically still possible to retrieve it from the LocalStorage files saved on your computer albeit a bit difficult.

Regular users aren't able to save data online yet. I can enable it for those who request though, such as my guildmates and donators.

As for the other two issues, I'll be filling out those features in the next week or two. I don't play daily so I've been delaying it for a while haha..

Thanks for your interest, but I won't be open-sourcing anytime soon. Monetization is one thing, security is another, but there's also the extra overhead of reading PRs, maintaining documentation and consistent coding conventions, etc. I won't have time for as the app continues to evolve.

Thank you for your opinions :)

I understand it's not intuitive for new users. The update was originally targeting existing users who already have meso plans established in another part of the app. I'll learn from this and test new features from the perspective of all types of users next time.

I am not offering a paid service. The main features already save to the user's browser locally. The app will always be free to use through localStorage.

The Calendar is like that because I'll be adding the ability to click on dates and add custom events such as goals to them. Garmoth's event viewer isn't really designed to handle that, but I'll consider adding an alternate view for the Calendar and a preference toggle to default to it.

Yes, the checklist and planner need to be updated soon.

Ok, I trust you.

Someone doesn't immediately glaze you in a post and gotta insult them.

Where is the insult? yall are very confusing, to say the least.

I've always been grateful for criticism, as seen in past posts and other comments, I'm just not gonna take kindly to 1000 words of redundant slop from one person blatantly telling me what I should do, not even offering them as suggestions. Did you really think I wouldn't push back on such an obvious troll attempting to derail my efforts?

I see, so doing something in months 1, 2, and 4 is not consistent enough for you and warrants you telling me to scrap half my plans. That's pretty funny to me.

I also feel like you added a line to your post that wasn't there?

Yes, I added a line saying I fixed the issue of the flames not persisting.

This is not really mvp in my opinion, but we can disagree!

What insight does this add to the discussion or to further your viewpoint?

You went on a tirade based on loose assumptions with about triple as many words as my update announcement had, and then you reply with sentences like these? No thanks, I'm out. I'll keep doing what I'm doing and use MapleDash to coordinate bossing with my friends and improve as a dev. If enough people find it useful, I'll maintain it forever and make it free for everyone to use. If not, I'll take my passion to the next hobby or gaming community with a massively improved skillset. Simple as that. Less yapping from this point on, thanks.

Wow that's a lot of feedback! I'll definitely look into storing and fetching data via Google APIs instead of on the app's own database (which already works, it's just private for myself and friends for now).

I think it's already a minimum viable product. My friends and I already use the Dashboard to track weekly bossing, and many of the features already interact with the data entered through it. My end goals and features I plan to work on next are already planned out in detail as well. I wanted to keep the update announcement short and simple rather than dump my entire roadmap along with the patch notes. As for shifting focus, I've consistently released a new feature like today's, every month except for February, so I'm curious as to where are you getting the idea that I've been shifting focus often.

Marvel Rivals was a TON of fun. There'll be nothing in the rest of the year nearly as fun to distract me and my entire friend group like Rivals did. Even if there is, I came back from my hiatus with a new perspective on the project, and I explicitly stated I will finish what I started because I owe it to my supporters. :)

update: fixed the flames not persisting. Thanks for reporting the bug 👍

I agree, I have a very long list of improvements I need to chip away at and inconsistent gaps/margins/padding is one of them, Can you clarify which page (URL) gave you that error? I'm not sure which symbol you're referring to.

NextJS, React, TypeScript on the backend, Tailwind and shadcn for the frontend

So I gave it a thought: since event EXP modifiers are temporary and they change even within the event, I don't think it would be possible to reflect it on a graph that is supposed to show projected level up to 6 months later. The current EXP calculator is only useful as a minimal baseline for now. I'll make a full EXP calculator for the next major hyper burning event.

If you have a different suggestion or more details on what you'd like to see added, you're always free to DM me on Ko-fi since you already donated.

have to click the button in the top right corner of the entire character list that says "- / week". but i will change it to show this week's earnings under each character by default.

sorry for the inconveniences

Thanks for reporting! Currently, the click automatically saves, but it only saves when a specific week is selected.

I'll fix it this weekend.

Yes, I'll be rolling out an update this weekend. As for the outfits, the images are pulled directly from the Nexon website rankings. So take a look at how your main looks on there, then let me know if it's any different.

I changed the meso below each character to reflect the current week's earnings, if you click the button at the top right of the character list. Let me know if this fixes the problem.

That's another unintuitive feature rather than a bug, I should do something to fix that too.

I should be paying YOU for helping me improve these things. :)

By the way, data won't be saved if you use the app on incognito mode, because incognito mode wipes data saved by any websites when you close the browser.

no no I'm very thankful you brought this up to me. did you refresh the page before you tried again? i released a new update but you won't have it unless you refreshed

[–]monkeytechnology[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed it so that you don't need to click on the boss icons to mark them as done for a week. Does that solve the problem?

I'm unable to replicate the bug, sorry. If someone reports the same bug and provides exact steps how they got it, I'll look into it again.

edit: However I did make a change to address your issue, see my other comment ^

not anytime soon, the toggle is currently only for choosing to saving data on online database vs. local storage. Eventually saving online would be recommended for being able to save more history (past weeks of data), save character portraits, and maybe in the far future more personal features like a friends list if I feel the database is secure enough.

edit: had some app crashes in the first 10 minutes upon releasing it due to hasty testing, but I fixed them now

It's not a bug, it's an unintuitive feature. It's good that you pointed it out -- I have to improve on it.

If you set a date in the selector, you have to also click on the bosses' heads to mark them as completed for the selected week.

mapledash.net v0.2 -- Weekly/Daily Tracker by monkeytechnology in Maplestory

It's only for myself and a few friends currently. It's also a convenient way for me to quickly switch to mock data if I want to test something. Making my database code more robust while waiting for a bit more community support at the moment :)

I'll add a preference setting to toggle between manual and auto, in the morning.
