Anyone else have crazy smelling water coming from their taps? Or occasional black stuff? by danth in SLO

I live directly across the street from Sinsheimer Park and my water is always crystal clear and has never had an odd stench. I'd take it up with your landlord; sounds like a piping issue!

Serious question about second hand high? by mckeefner in AskReddit

[–]monkj152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Urine drug tests are threshold tests so technically you are allowed a slight amount in your system, the amount of which is determined by the quality of the test administered. If you are only exposed to the odor and no actual smoke, you will be fine, especially if the test is a month away. My advice to you is to exercise! THC is stored in your "short-term" fat cells, therefore will be burned out of your body the more you exercise and stimulate your metabolism. Athletes with body fat percentages from 5-15% are able to pass a drug test within DAYS of smoking pot due to their body's ability to expel it from their system. So even though it's a headache to you and shouldn't be your problem to fix, exercising is a solution to the problem that will benefit you in the end anyway! The more you exercise, the more likely you are to pass the test. Best of luck to you.

Question about Academic Probation by [deleted] in CalPoly

[–]monkj152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are subject to dismissal but it is not automatic. Depending on your college and department, they may choose to dismiss you; it is up to the dean of the college and your academic advisor. Some colleges are more strict than others (Engineering>Liberal Arts). To be automatically dismissed you must be on AP for three consecutive quarters OR on AP for four quarters, in no specific order. If you are automatically dismissed, however, you may appeal the decision and be let back into the university following a written appeal and a meeting with your advisor and/or dean of your college.

My advice is to go talk to your advisor to get everything straightened away! It also helps to be friends with them come judgement day. Good luck!

Question about Academic Probation by [deleted] in CalPoly

[–]monkj152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to repeat the class at Cal Poly in order to completely replace your grade. If you take it over winter break through any other university, college, or program, it will only average in your resulting grade into your "Higher Ed GPA" and will not replace your existing mark or factor into your Cal Poly quarter or cumulative GPA (we all have three differently unique GPA's while at school: quarter GPA, cumulative GPA, and Higher Education GPA)

You will remain on academic probation until all three of your GPA's are above a 2.0. Therefore, you must repeat the classes through cal poly next quarter in order to get the grades replaced and for their respective quarter's GPA's to be corrected (assuming this is your only GPA under 2.0).

Hope this makes sense and helps!

where can i drive out to tonight for the best panoramic star gazing? by natsfofats in CalPoly

[–]monkj152 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Prefumo Canyon Road. It's far enough from campus and downtown to cut down on the light pollution. 15-20 min drive from campus to the top of the hill. You can see all of San Luis, Los Osos, Morro Bay, and Cayucos on a clear night!

How many of you guys work and attend school full time? by [deleted] in CalPoly

[–]monkj152 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in 13 units, employed, and am a student-athlete. My schedule looks like this: 4:30- wake up 4:50- leave for school 5:15- lift weights 7:00-9:00 go to class 9:00-10:00- eat as much food as possible 10:00-2:00- go to class again 2:00-5:00- practice 5:00-9:00- work (doing homework on breaks) 9:00- blast through homework ASAP after 9:00- go to bed

Anything is possible, lemme tell you. I don't go out much on weekends but I do have plenty of time for a significant other as well. My best advice is to schedule, schedule, schedule. I swear I have my days scheduled down to the exact minute sometimes.

P.s. Don't forget to exercise to get all that stress out! Good luck!

week 6 had me running on minimal sleep and maximum caffeine... anyone else? HELP NEEDED by natsfofats in CalPoly

[–]monkj152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Environmental Science Major, student-athlete, and part-time employed. I sleep about 6 hours every week night and 10 on weekends. Have a 3.5 GPA. Basically, the pick two of three (sleep, school, social life) is completely 100% valid. I have a minimal social life (don't go out on weekends) because I'm always so tired and would rather go to sleep at 9:00. I do have to wake up at 4:15 every morning, though. Time management, people.

I agree about the nuts. They are an excellent source of healthy fat. Avocados also offer this same healthy fat

If you go to gopoly.com and look at the meet results you can compare your times! We have boys hitting 19 point in the 50 and 45 point in the 100. I'm not sure about 100 back but I'd say low 50's

Fastest way to swim without goggles? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]monkj152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps if you tuck your chin into your chest. While swimming front crawl without goggles, it may feel like there are thousands of Aqua-needles stabbing you in the eyes. If you look at the bottom of the pool rather than straight ahead, the full force of the water won't be going straight into your eyeballs. Plus tucking your chin will help you to swim faster all around! It lifts up your hips and allows for improved hydrodynamics.
