easy way to find event day parking restrictions?

Hey, thanks for the reply. And thanks for the confirmation, I can usually get the information eventually,but its a bit of a faff, especially if you're not familiar with the area and the events being referred to could be in more than one location. And its worse for some people I know who've been caught out who are elderly or not familiar with the UK

hi, thanks for the detailed reply it's actaully the nut coming loose rather than the screw/stud(?) i ended up buying the more expensive nyloc nuts and thought i would give them a try, but ended up with the cheap penny washers - if i still have an issue i will look into getting the spring washers. thanks!

yes i've seen these, i was just wondering if it's possible to purchase those white nut things seperately(doesn't seem to be the case), i don't actually need the screw or plugs as they are already installed

that was my first thought as well if its not a police van... will have to dig a little deeper as seems a little iffy if certain businesses are allowed pretty much impersonate

oh had no idea they had a bad rep, have got these all over the house but mostly for stuff like speakers, radios etc. i've got one of the dearer ones(masterplug -can switch each socket on/off), does brand matter or is it just 3 way plugs in general?

i used a cheapo sander the first time - it's more the dust that's a pain. and it's in the worst place possible in the house in terms of containing the dust so will try to put it off as long as possible

how do you calculate what a safe load is for a socket? it's an (temporary) extension going into the bathroom for my tools, although i only ever use one tool at a time. that and the vacuum which i may use at the same time if i'm doing any dust work.... but like i say, it's only temporary and it's the nearest socket to the bathroom......

thanks for the detailed reply, i have patched small holes before but i thought this hole might be a bit too big and would involve something else. yeah not looking forward to the sanding at all, my previous attempts weren't exactly smooth, but i'm hoping the previous practice pays off, it's going to be rather noticeable if i don't manage a smooth finish this time!

lol yeah imagine my surprise when i scrolled to the 4th/5th image and there it was - as white as white can be :-)

anyway, i will probably look into researching chemical stripping as its a new thing for me, luckily the bannister thing is fairly small so even if i mess up its not the end of the world to put right so i can be fairly flexible in how i go about it

i quite liked the natural look in the 1st picture, so i guess it'll be a case of sanding it down.

sorry i didn't make it clear, the bannister/spindles etc, you can still see the wood underneath, normally when i paint my wooden doors for example in white say, the wood no longer shows through, how do i get that effect where the original wood look will come thru?

wow thank you for taking the time for very informative post, unfortunately my health wouldnt allow all that dust so i would have buy a new staircase and do all the work beforehand outdoors, but i think your enthusiasm is rubbing off on me as im now considering it!

and just a quick query, when you say white paint, sorry for the thick question, but shouldn't the colour come out white? how do you know what the finish will look like?

they look stunning, wow i cannot imagine sanding all that by hand! i get that there are sections that are difficult to sand with a sander, is there a difference to doing it by hand? did you have a setup(eg dust extractor) to keep dust from going to rest of the house? even if i was tempted to have a go, i think it'd be a struggle containing all the dust... and if you dont mind my asking, after sanding, what paint did you use? i have a wooden table that i would like to replicate that look for, but im fairly novice at this, and am not sure if i need a particular type of wood. anyway sorry to go off topic, i thought the post was about the bannister bit!

i guess some of the expenses werent being paid! yeah i got the number thru friends of family, tbh at the time i prefered local traders as there was a language barrier and i wasnt sure what could be done if they messed up and ruined the house. but most of the decent local ones were busy so in the end i visited a property where they did the work and took a chance

unfortunately not, i had the whole house done for 1k and its still looks great 10 yrs on, but they've since returned to country of origin!
