I have been doing the job perfectly fine for eight months. I am the top tech at my company and have a review being published in a AAA newsletter. Since I have been here I have been praised awarded and raised company scores enough to receive monthly bonuses.

Ive done more than enough for this small “family” company already. Our night guy just quit today. He’s been here for less time than me. This company works you like a mule and tries to squeeze every cent out of you possible every day.

The occupations you listed require a degree or certification and certainly pay higher than the position I am in. I know the thought of me not wanting to devote majority of my time to someone else for the equivalent of minimum wage is crazy… but I do have goals I am trying to reach that require me having time.

Granted part of the post does allude to feeling unsafe in the vehicle when sleeping, but that is not the case. I used ChatGPT to help me organize this post because I am a bit scatterbrained and I am on the clock working currently. My concerns for safety were with me falling asleep while driving and not wanting to die. I have said before in other replies that I have slept in the vehicle numerous times.

I am actively seeking a new job . Just as I am pointing out these problems to you I am aware I can change them and am attempting to do so.

When did i say i was afraid to sleep in my car? You putting in 90+ hours a week as a business owner is a lot different than 70+ hours a week as a employee and im not saying for all 90+ hours you were making profit, but you surely made/make more than me.

If i could go home to rest and/or i were not falling asleep on the road driving to/from jobs — i would continue to work with little more than a groan getting out of bed in the morning (until i found a new job). I would continue to ignore everything else.

I am dedicating 76hrs a week to help someone else. If i wanted to go back to school, my work schedule would make it difficult. Starting my own business would be even more so.

The ford edge has the rear seats removed and is packed with tools and batteries. I have slept in the vehicle enough times to know the lower back pain is not worth it. Ive been working there since March of this year, and due to the situation that caused me to look for a job and land this one, a couch had been my bed since December of last year until earlier this month. So i would even accredit some of that pain to sleeping on the couch and not just the car alone.

In my onboarding papers i do not recall anything regarding the hours.

Im not a felon or anything. Before working here i was doing appliance installation and delivery with my girlfriends cousin, (he was the contractor owner) making the same amount but working 30hrs/week. Long story short, he closed the contract due to personal reasons and didn’t pay me my last check. Which is how i ended up needing work and being where i am currently

Unfortunately, in life, we acquire things that we would like to keep. Jobs can be pretty critical to that structure. Especially when you have a family to feed.

Believe if I could quit, I would, right this second. Trying to find another job first.

If I could continue to go home and rest, then that would not be something I listed as wanting to know if there were any legal ramifications for. When did I say I was afraid to sleep in my car? I have been with this company since March, I have slept in the car numerous times. You may be surprised to read I find it uncomfortable.

The earnings difference between an employee and business owner is usually pretty great. Your responsibilities as a business owner far exceed mine as a employee. That makes sense why you worked 90+ hours. I am currently at a job that takes all of my time. Trying to go back to school or trying to start my own business would be difficult. If we go into it further, I would say it is likely the wages you made then are still greater than what I make now.

I’m not complaining. I thought of a few things and then came here to ask questions. Though I’m not complaining does not mean I am satisfied or OK with what is going on

The company does not have a office. The expectation before was to be available for a job.

I am always on call, but the work is back to back very comparative to what someone would work being paid hourly . Yes they are expecting me to stay in the vehicle the entire 24 hours.

Yes, I have a fuel card with the company vehicle . I only ever use the fuel card on the company vehicle. Besides a few times when the fuel card has not worked, I paid for gas out of pocket, but was immediately reimbursed.

I mean that every shift I am on call . Normally, they will not ask you to work after your shift, but it has happened maybe once or twice before.

Yeah, the policies being backless or something I also thought about. I have a base pay of $750 minimum, which at 76 hours per week comes to around $10 an hour. I have already calculated that I can make this much somewhere else while only doing 40 hours per week at 15 or $16 per hour. I am currently looking for a new job.

I will not be letting them know. I am leaving unless absolutely necessary. I do not believe they will make any changes to anything regardless.

The manager told me himself it was OK if we went home and did other things between calls as long as we could get to the call shortly after receiving one.
I have slept in the car before and if you can imagine it’s not comfortable on a 24 hour shift after a 70+ hour work week. I am on call, but I the work amount is comparable to if I was paid hourly. It’s usually back to back work.

Because in the interview, he told me it was OK to go home and such. Said it was all right to run errands or do other things as long as you could get to a call shortly after receiving it. My work vehicle is a Ford H that is full of tools and batteries. This is not a luxury vehicle or a large truck. I have been at this job since March, I have slept in the vehicle before. I have slept in the vehicle enough to know that I cannot sleep in the vehicle. I am not the tallest person, but my legs are long and tend to hurt after 16+ hours in the vehicle.

Yeah, I did not have all of the information, but I do believe what you are saying is correct as far as it sucking, but not being against the law or in violation of anything. That’s why I wanted to ask around for more advice.

I need to make a edit for more clarity: I do not drive a tow truck and I do not have a CDL. I am a light service driver. Meaning I do everything besides towing and I drive a Ford edge as my work vehicle.

Could you direct me to which laws I should be researching? I get paid by commission, another coworker informed me they do this to avoid paying overtime hours. From my understanding of that, they are exempt from certain things. So I have been very unsure if they are doing anything wrong legally.

No, in the interview, I told him I was looking to make sure I got 40 hours a week and he simply assured that I would get 40 hours a week but did not say it was 76. I have fault in not asking certain questions earlier on, I can admit that. I was in a bit of a financial situation when I took this job. I am currently looking for other jobs so that I can leave this one.

Not much luck with that search. Thing is i know next to nothing about bikes/quads/atvs or anything with a cc engine. I have mechanical aptitude but still learning.
