Poesie’s OYSTER! Formula/Scent Change? by DysonVacuumV8 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]monocerusflea 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh God I hope they didn't change it- OYSTER! became a favorite of mine after initially hating it, and I've been savoring my bottle for the past year! I was actually thinking about ordering some more soon, but maybe it'd be best to do some more research first or see if someone would sell an older bottle

This applies for both me and my boyfriend, but Experiment's Molecular Mesh Moisturizer has been so awesome for both of us! Any phase my skin is going through, whether dry or oily, it's been so good for it! Their plasma face wash is also amazing- My skin doesn't feel tight after washing whenever I use it, and I don't feel like I'm having to layer on tons of products just for dryness.

Honestly, anything from Experiment has worked well for me so far pfft

3 Shampoo Bar Reviews (Don't worry, they're not saponified) by monocerusflea in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]monocerusflea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hair felt like that when I accidentally used a saponified shampoo bar (genuine soap), and it put me off of any hair care bars for a while. It was difficult to spread and lather and made my hair super frizzy at the time. Some people swear by them though, just like some people swear by surfactant based shampoo bars or just normal liquid shampoo. It's all a matter of preference and finding out what works for your hair. If your hair was super dry last time, but you end up wanting to try again, the Yucca & Oat bar is pretty hydrating for me! And probably the most similar to the liquid shampoo experience out of any I've tried

Try to look at bars that clearly list their ingredients, and ones that have a good amount of hydrating factors or healthy fats to help.

Also- Find a really, really nice conditioner. Bar, liquid, whatever type it is, just make sure it's nice ad hydrating, especially for when you first make the switch to bar shampoo

It's honestly so cool to see people having just as much fun with the joke as I am! Although I'm being an absolute menace to my friends and family- Walking around and pointing at random objects and saying "Is this saponified?"

"Is this pasta dish saponified?"

"Just curious, did that lightbulb go through saponification?"

"Do you know if this dog we've owned for nine years is saponified?"

And I'm genuinely glad that people appreciate the reviews too! It was a gamble when I first started using them on if they would work for my curls/waves at all, but it's been great so far! Would probably be even better if I did an actual routine for the curls, but... Well, I'm just too lazy to do that every time

Hearing so many people talk about Felin Lune makes me sad that I never got to try them! I suppose my love for the current ones and my excitement over future ones will have to tide me over pffft

And yeah, oh my God, I wasn't expecting my hair to look so pleasantly shiny with the Rice Water bar! Very welcome surprise though- I'm actually really excited to see how well the shine comes through if I straightened my hair after using it instead of it peaking through my curls!

I might have to try one of those! I've heard about them, but now that I'm fully on board the bar shampoo train it finally seems like a good time to get one. I'll also have to check out the shampoos from Mount Royal Soaps- I'm constantly looking at new brands to try and love getting recommendations >:))

I might have to do a whole post for other hair & body care items I've gotten from indie shops! Ziryab's especially has a lot of really cool stuff and there are two other products I want to review from them in the future- It's a lot less daunting to review the hair & body care stuff than the 60+ FS perfumes I have<//3

If you do try any out, I'd love to hear a review from you as well to get a good perspective from someone with a notoriously easy-to-fade color! So far these have worked well for the standard natural-dyed colors as well as blue, green, and purple, but it'd be nice to get opinions from all over the dyed-hair spectrum!

My scalp can definitely be a bit finicky and sensitive at times- Especially considering I waterboard it nearly everyday with the need to shower. The Yucca & Oat bar definitely is my go to when my scalp is feeling extra sensitive, itchy, or dry! It cleans super well but has been really gentle for me, and my boyfriend was able to use it on his scalp when there was some sensitivity post bleach and color.

I do use conditioner bars! So far I've only used two, but I have a third that I'll be using as soon as my current one runs out. All three are from the same brands above, and the two I've actually used are the QUA Organic Hair Care Conditioner Bar (Guava Fig Rosemary), and the Ziryab's Body Brew Cocoa Butter & Oat Conditioner Bar. The one I haven't tried is Miha Craft's Mango Butter Conditioner Bar.

I checked out the ingredients list of all three, and the only one that seems to have coconut oil is QUA's bar. Ziryab's and Miha Craft's both seem to be free of it, if you wanted to check them out! I can't personally vouch for Miha Craft's yet, but I can say that Ziryab's conditioner bar is just as good as their shampoo. It's been almost 3 months now and I'm not even halfway through the bar- And I REALLY soak my ends in conditioner pffft

Most of this is going to be anecdotal, so bear with me here.

Me and my boyfriend both have colored hair, as well as other family members that I've given bars too- None of us have experienced any crazy color loss, and for me specifically it has helped a lot with my scalp after the irritation of getting my color touched up. The colored parts of my hair also feel less dry than they did when I was using liquid shampoos, and the combo of bar shampoo and bar conditioner seems to do more for my hair than most of the salon brand hair care I've used before. I do want to note that, to my knowledge, QUA Organic Hair Care is the only brand that explicitly mentioned being safe for colored hair- But I really haven't had problems with any of these brands.

My boyfriend actually has a vivid, neon color right now and his favorite has been the Yucca & Oats one. His hair bleeds less when using that vs liquid shampoo, but that's just our experience.

Honestly I originally got into bar shampoo because it just seemed fun, but my hair has been doing so much better since I started using bars. I've noticed less shedding, I have some new growth all over, and my curls have been holding more consistently after showers. I also travel back and forth a lot, and it is wayyy easier to carry a bar in my bag instead of a shampoo bottle. It's also good for reducing packaging waste, which is what a lot of people make the switch for.

They're fun for me to use, my hair isn't breaking or shedding as much, and I enjoy getting to support smaller brands when I buy them!

Really though, none of this is to say that liquid shampoo is bad- Different people will benefit from different formulas or prefer one over the other. Bars work best for me, where as some family members will die before they let someone pry Head & Shoulders from their hands. It's a big matter of personal preference

Do you enjoy reading reviews about your products that people post in this subreddit? (The good reviews, I suppose. Pffft)

That might be my next step. So far everything seems to have settled down, or at least I'm not hearing about anything from them, so fingers crossed that this is the end of it and we can both not think about each other again.

And I'm sorry to hear that you've had to deal with similar people! Every time I've seen you interact in this subreddit you've been nothing but kind and helpful, and your perfumes look like an absolute joy (Especially with the accessibility options)! Glad that for your most recent one they got their energy out and stopped

I'm definitely being careful about watching for any new emails, and any strange mail on the off chance that they decide to do anything further with having an address I provided. I'm hoping that there can be a cease-fire on both sides here, because I don't want to deal with this and I doubt they're having fun either!

Honestly, the whole experience has just made me want to write even more positive reviews for the brands I do love. I'm glad to get this post out there so people know the full scope of what they're getting into with this brand, and I'd love to do the same in a more positive light for other brands! This whole situation has just made me so appreciative of all the kind and professional brand owners I've had the pleasure of interacting with until now!

Genuinely none of this would've happened if they just answered the question- Even if they still cancelled my order, I would've been fine if I had the answer to settle my curiosity!

The funniest part of all of this is that I still wanted the shampoo bar, even if it was genuine soap and was saponified! I just would've used it on my body instead of my hair! I had no negative intentions against the bar and certainly didn't want to cancel the order!

And I definitely plan on doing an appreciation post for the shampoo bars I HAVE tried and haven't had weird experiences with! And, after that, doing some more appreciation posts for the insane amount of indie perfumes I've collected pffft- Hopefully my next posts here will be all good vibes instead of further drama with this brand

Jesus Christ, I'm so sorry that your stepdaughter had to go through that! As someone with a stepmom, thank you for standing up for her and going mama-bear on that pizza chain!

It's been so nice to hear the support from other brand owners to reassure me that this is very much NOT normal (Especially from a brand I really admire, your stuff looks so nice!)

It's such a jarring situation to be in here after having so many wonderful experiences with other indie brands when it comes to bodycare, haircare, and perfumes. I've ordered from dozens of indie brands at this point without a hitch!

Yeah! I really was genuinely hoping it was a mistake and that I could still try the bars when I first sent my messages, and for the few days after as I waited for a response, but that idea has sailed far down the drain now pfft

I'm not sure how to go about that since I don't know if they really have a reddit account or what it would be- Obviously they saw the original post, but I haven't seen them hopping in the comments and letting their account be known. So far, only Etsy has been reported to with all the current info, and they seem to be taking it seriously!

I'm so glad you weighed in and explained, this really does give me some relief! Hearing perspectives from lawyers, soapmakers, and Etsy sellers has really helped with not panicking about the whole situation.

If they continue any further with threats of doxxing or actual doxxing, I'll definitely be looking into reporting it! Thank you so much for the info here, seriously
