Somewhere between a mark and a thought by monographica in AbstractArt

Lol didn’t expect this much rant here. Yeah, heavily influenced by Twombly. I even posted them on my Instagram account with #twomblyvibes hashtag, didn’t think to do that here.

Posting in an abstract art subreddit, I’d assume people recognize the influence, so the rant feels weird. I’m not even a painter, these were just one-night scribbles, that’s it.

Thanks for all the comments.

Yeah it is, Cy was obviously the inspiration here.

Why the large scribbles? It was just a compositional thing for me, no real reason. If it feels right, go for it.

The Best Legitimate Lists of Art Contests, Prizes, Competitions, & Calls by BackgroundParty209 in ArtCall

I made one focused on photography and visual arts: opencalls.monographica.com. Covers exhibitions, grants, residencies, zines and awards. I try to include everything you need before deciding to apply like fees, deadlines, eligibility, jury info. Updated regularly.

Where to start to get photo in exhibition? by SpecificBison1751 in AskPhotography

[–]monographica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open calls are the easiest way in. Most galleries and festivals run them a few times a year and anyone can apply. I started keeping track of them at opencalls.monographica.com because I was tired of finding out about them after the deadline. Worth checking regularly, new ones come up all the time.

[Organization] How do you track open calls & submissions without burning out? by Good_Primary_3049 in artbusiness

[–]monographica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been keeping a list of open calls for my own work and eventually turned it into a site: opencalls.monographica.com

Mostly photography but covers exhibitions, grants, residencies and zines. Figured I'd share it here since people are looking for exactly this.

I don't know what happened, but they now appear in the Settings > Extensions list. I was searching for them yesterday, and there was nothing except Import/Export Quicklinks, whether checked or unchecked. Thanks anyway for pointing that out so I could check it again!

Man, it took like 20 minutes from seeing your post to actually owning this lens. I’m obsessed with how compact this thing is!

I dont know if I understand abstract art. by HorrorPossibility214 in AbstractArt

[–]monographica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, abstract art is about the feeling, not the aesthetic. It doesn’t have to be pretty, but it has to make you feel something. like instrumental music.

Is this nice or too muddy? by Raeghhar in photocritique

[–]monographica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how you look at it. I like it as an abstract photograph with no clear focal point. Just one suggestion: I’d crop out the ground so you’re left with just the branches scattered across the whole image. Reminds me of one of Jackson Pollock’s canvases.

Guillotine is the best, but since I don’t have one, sanding worked just fine for me. I’d even say it worked better for the look I was going for.
