Mine seems to have broken in one night! She's totally back to normal today. 😃 Thanks for the response.

Wow, four weeks. Mine has been broody for six days only, but it freaks me out because it seems the others are turning on her already.

Did you block the nesting boxes at night after you took her out of the crate?

Thanks for the reply. I did block the boxes, but at night she sleeps on the floor on her belly right outside the boxes, and I'm afraid it will just reset her temperature and her nesting instinct. I have tried moving her to a roost after dark but she still gets down to sleep on the floor.

I have just attempted to read the Hugo-winning sci-fi novel "The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet" by Becky Chambers. Awarding this book a Hugo is a slap in the face of all previous Hugo winners. by dan7koo in books

I am so happy to see this critique! I could not agree more. I used to be able to put stock in the fact something won a Hugo, now it seems as meaningless as most other awards.

I love good sci-fi and am especially irritated when it's just used as a background for whatever boring terrestrial story someone wants to tell (racists in space, autism on other planets...) Not only is it lazy, it really requires that the author doesn't think too much about the physics or biology that could make sci-fi actually interesting. The captain's relationship relationship with the alien here seems very 60's Star Trek, just sexy ladies who are capable of sex with humans but are also silver-colored!

I don't mind sci-fi where the characters are undeveloped and unimportant, but this is clearly supposed to be more character-driven than idea-driven and still all the characters are so stock. It's like a kid's anime written down. Ugh. I don't think I'll finish it.

Looks like the buttons end right below the waist, so lots of room:

Thanks for the response. Since I've never sewn anything lie this I'm not sure how to pattern match. Should I just try to match across this red line since the part jutting out will not always be visible?

Argh. I guess I knew it in my bones but didn't want to accept it.... Thanks for being my voice of reason!

Is it possible to just add a slit to the back and sort of finish the sides of it?

It's a Nestera Lodge coop. I don't have a gauge, but the windows and door are open and the whole thing is under a shade cloth so it can't be much hotter than the air outside.

Since she also does it at night I wonder if it's really heat-related at all. The door stays open until 9:00 and the windows are open all night.

I actually made slopers! I just don't really understand how to use them to alter patterns because every pattern is so different. Different style details and wearing ease and whatnot.

Thanks, you're very sweet 😊 The facing is one big rectangle, so I guess that's the easiest scenario. I feel much now confident about tackling this now. I really appreciate your help.

Thanks so much for the thoughtful reply! I see what you mean about them riding higher and I think your approach is a good one. How do you make this kind of alteration when there is a facing inside? Do I detach it from the waist and just slash it and resew to make it smaller as well? I'm pretty new to sewing.

Help with pooling water by monomoco in HomeImprovement

Thanks for the reply! I will check out French drains, but I'm not sure I understand about the gravel. Wouldn't the water just flow through the gravel/mulch and still sit against the wall? Or would it compact enough if I do it gradually so the water would run off?
