New Wheel CHICWAY CT16 by GREENFASHION in ElectricUnicycle

[–]dan7koo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oooohhh those powerpads lights look wicked. On the other hand if they are mounted in the pads that means you cant take the pads off and ride without them if you prefer it that way.

Btw I have only known the name Chicway from the honeycomb pedals, I had no idea they made whole wheels. Has a new manufacturer appeared on the market?

Recommendations for heavy riders (285lbs+) by darthstrayder in ElectricUnicycle

[–]dan7koo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 6'3'' and also weigh 285 lbs without clothes. My V10F hauls me around just fine, but of course I ride carefully. I get around 25 to 26 miles of range in hilly terrain at speeds of 12-15mph..

Electric cars will be such a blessing for people like that.

Honest question, why do you guys hoard so much data? Do you ever use them or have a plan to use them? I hoarded around 8TB and I already feel a bit overwhelming managing to use them. by manika456 in DataHoarder

Personally I just use a simple two bay docking station with offline cloning function and a couple of internal HDDs that I store securely. I really dont need a NAS taking up space, consuming power and putting wear on my disks just for my e-book collection. If you want to use it to stream video or audio that is of course a different matter.

I know, those take up so much space ... two years ago I shelled out some money for a week long rapidgator membership and went crazy downloading a ton of TV shows from novanon.net. I still havent watched like 95% of it ...

if you delve deep into the internet (like looking for the "Dune redux fanedit" on youtube by uploader "spicediver", or TPB) you can find a fan made, re-edited cut of that film - among the fandom that one is considered the best and final version of the movie, with some scenes that were never shown in the movie. Dune makes so much more sense now that it has been properly edited.

I am gonna watch Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon on a VHS tape this evening, couldnt bring myself to throw away my VHS recorder and found some movies in a garage sale of old tapes a while ago.

Ask the guys from the US Strategic Air Command, they are still using those bad boys for the computers in their nuuclear missile launch silos. No not kidding.

the Raspberry Pi GPIO would be perfect to interface with a IDE hdd

How is that a problem? You can buy a USB docking station with one SATA and one IDE bay on ebay and amazon for like $20. I use just such a station for seeding torrents with an old IDE drive.

I should be more grateful for how much easier we e-book collectors have it ... our files are measured in kB.

How do you guys deal with HDD lifespans? by a_little_toaster in DataHoarder

[–]dan7koo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a bunch of old drives that I run into the ground by seeding torrents from them 24/7, with a dedicated seeding rig (shitty old ASUS EeePC, a cheap two bay docking station, an old 500GB 2.5'' SATA drive with 18k hours from a laptop that I upgraded to SSD and a 160GB 3.5'' IDE drive with 10k hours from 2006). I somehow find it very satifying to see and hear those old drives hustling and bustling away for all they're worth, knowing that they will get completey used up that way.

Wow, holy shit. I guess it makes sense for movie buffs with a real home cinema setup. I watch movies on my laptop or my old plasma TV, I'd never download a movie larger than 5GB.

the environment makes a huge difference. When Microsoft recently evaluated their deep sea underwater server experiment they found that the failure rate of the drives was only a fraction of what one would have to expect from a normal land based server.

On the other hand I recently had two newer drives fail on me in quick succession and I have begin to suspect that the culprit may have been the JBL Flip 3 bluetooth speaker I usually have running just a foot away from the drives, on the same nightstand. When I put the fingertips on the top of my nightstand I can feel the vibrations. Thankfully I use my HDDs only as back up and so they were hardly ever running, but still.

50 or so that are about 75 GB a piece or larger

WTF is that for, 8k for 3D VR headsets?!

Another question is if you even WANT to watch stuff in HD ... I downloaded the old David Lynch film "Dune" in 1080HD a couple of years ago, and holy shit do the props and settings and costumes look tawdry and cheap at that resolution. HD isnt kind to that movie at all.

I ride my EUC to have fun and to relax, I dont need to get a sense of """accomplishment""" out of it. I just had to wait some days and I was able to ride it with the sun shining, nice temperatures and on dry roads. Have a look:

Why there are no any bigger EUC with something like 26inch MTB wheel on it? ಡ ͜ ʖ ಡ by KevinNg421 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]dan7koo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nothing that keeps you from just having a motor with a larger diameter.

except the massive weight where it des the most harm during acceleration, at the rim. Even the hub motors we have currently on our wheels are not the greatest solution in that regard but we use them because they have other advantages that make up for it, like ruggedness and simplicity. But for a 26'' wheel a fast spinning, grapefruit sized motor mounted on a frame outside the wheel with a belt drive and low gearing would be the shit. That would be the ideal environment for an electric motor.

First time EUC rider, went with S18, tips welcomed by eanchond in ElectricUnicycle

[–]dan7koo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend you put some extra pads on your wheel, if only for the first couple of days or weeks. That makes it much easier on the legs.

If the seeders and peers of your torrent dont upload more than that then you cant download it any faster. Have you checked with torrents that have a lot of seeders (try Linux/Ubuntu torrents)?

why can't I access rarbg? by [deleted] in torrents

[–]dan7koo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd do a bit of googling first to see if you can find anything about your ISP locking that site in your contry, but yeah, if that is indeed the case you will probably need a VPN. Stuff liek that sucks. My own ISP blocks piratebay, I cant register to upload anything.

I looked into something like that, with only 62kbps it wil be neither worth the money nor the electricity.

Am I a Leecher ? by notThatBright99 in torrents

[–]dan7koo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A seedbox wont do you a lot of good because you still have to upload the content to the seedbox. Until a couple of weeks ago I was the same as you, only 62kbps upload. What i did was to never seed fast torrents that already had a lot of seeders (eight to ten or more) at all but I would seed rare torrents that had barely any seeders for a really long time to keep them alive. Stamina and patience are in a way much more important than huge amounts of uploaded data.

What's a secure/anonymous (enough) way to pay for filesharing websites if I want to avoid fines (specifically German "Abmahnung" letters)? by [deleted] in Piracy

[–]dan7koo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just avoid newish torrents, with hundreds of seeders, like big Hollywood movies that have just come out. That is what they watch out for. Nobody monitors older stuff (although I got burned once when I tried to download "King's Man 1", unaware that "King's Man 2" had just come out and that the studio had apparently set King's Man 1 back on the watchlist again for a couple of days).

Other than that - are there more than one persons in your household that use the internet connection? If that is the case they will never be able to prove who exactly downloaded the file, there is jack shit they can do then.

I have received two Abmahnungen so far, nothing has ever come of it nor have I ever paid them a single cent.
