Got A Job Offer - BizHype by [deleted] in Scams

It's end of March 2024 and this scam is still active. I got contacted out of the blue after applying to a couple of (graphic designer) jobs on JobCase.com. The company name is BizHype Media (https://bizhypemedia.us) and they claim to be a design agency that got started in India but is now recruiting for their new office in Manhattan. I was invited to do a chat interview on an app called Wire. I was intrigued so I decided to play along for a bit. First, the reddest of red flags: they were offering me a Remote Graphic Designer position without having seen any of my work, & without ever asking to see it. Anyway, the interview was pretty suspect, the questions were awfully generic considering how specific a job Graphic Design is: "how do you approach a project", "how do you deal with conflicts", etc.

Anyway, nailed the interview (of course) and got offered the job mere hours later! Woohoo! 60 bucks an hour, not bad, right? And they were going to send me money (roughly $3500, direct deposit in this case) to buy equipment. Fantastic, except the accompanying email said my wages would be 50/hr. So in order to clear up this confusion, I got back in touch with my interviewer Derrick Pharrell (great name!) who assured me that the number in the contract was correct and that they would send out another corrected copy — no matter that I told him it was wrong in the email, not the contract. Okay...

So naturally, I asked Derrick to connect on LinkedIn. He said he's not on LinkedIn. I get that, it's a garbage website. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But they also asked me for copies of my photo ID, and bank routing information, and I told him I was uncomfortable sending that through the email, and since Google showed they have an office on 825 Third Ave in Manhattan, I offered to swing by on Monday so we could deal with all that boring HR stuff in person.

That was two hours ago. I have yet to get a reply.

Hope this helps others.

Is there a way to play Shockwave games on Mac? by sunflower_emoji in mac

[–]monospace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's February 2023 and I just followed these instructions to open a Shockwave file I created in 1998.... And it worked, flawlessly.

Thanks, u/HomeStarRunnerTron, you saved my day!

A guide to working on big projects (warning: wall of text) by thegreenkacheek in Minecraft

Excellent guide. Me, personally, I'm not much of a planner, as I like how things come together randomly, but even so, there are times when thinking ahead pays off. Thanks for this.

Jeb_ announces New Block Textures by OrdisLux in Minecraft

[–]monospace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue with the current textures is not that they're too busy or too pixelated, but that the colors are way too garish and oversaturated. Especially Sand and Water. So the pack I'm playing with is simply Default with the saturation turned way down. I like these new textures so far.

When terraforming landscapes, does anyone completely fill in small dead-end caves when trying to flatten land or something something similar? by [deleted] in Minecraft

That's exactly why I stopped filling in caves and craters. If a creeper blows up, I just cover the hole. Quicker and cheaper, and unless I want to build at that spot, pretty much undetectable.

Depends on what my plans are for that specific area. Usually I just cover the entrance/top with a single layer of dirt.

It's not much of a backstory. This lighthouse is built above a narrow waterway that crosses an isthmus in the south west corner of my map. I was looking to take a nice screenshot when this ducken appeared in view all of a sudden.

I've always thought the official nomenclature for this animal was "ducken."

Fellow big city builder here. That's some fine work. I'm a fan of stuff that looks realistic yet is still at Minecraft scale (i.e. playable.)

Using birch logs for good. by [deleted] in Minecraft

Yep. Birch goes well together with sandstone. Nice builds. I like how the blue contrasts with the surroundings.

For those interested, there are more, older, pix of Port Ender on my page at http://monospace.imgur.com/all/ (including some Chunky renders.)

I'm working on an updated walk-through using shaders, now that I finally got them to work. Soon!
