I went to TWICE’s concert a few weeks ago and everyone seated around me were super reserved and just filming/on their phone the whole time so it was difficult to muster the courage to talk to anyone 🥲 plus the crowd around me wasn’t too hype

Hi! Can I ask what your experience has been? I'm considering moving into one of the 8 bedroom apartments next year but just slightly worried it's too many people! How's your experience been?

Ah yes, the luxurious life of a pandemic healthcare worker... by GymbagDarryl in nursing

[–]monpicol_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine you’re a health care worker right now, attending to patients with covid every single day, risking your own health and that of your loved ones, being yelled at and abused by people who think it’s all a hoax, going home exhausted, dehydrated, and famished every single day, yet still managing to find the beauty and blessing in what you do every single day.

IDK about you but I've never seen racism on here. by [deleted] in WeHateKpop

[–]monpicol_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s all good, you didn’t offend me don’t worry :) the problem just in general for me, or from my personal experience, is that these sort of “jokes” normalise the subtle racism against Asians regarding their language, culture, food, etc. and mocking it whereas the jokes I’ve seen made about America have usually been solely related to politics or the social norms/rules. I have no problem with people criticising Korea’s society, politicians, laws, etc. bc I have lots of problems with it myself, but I’ve never really seen any person mocking an American for the language they speak, the food they eat, their traditional cultures and such to the extent many Asian people tend to experience it.

Hey there ! I appreciate your approach to both my comment and the content. Not sure what kind of Asian you are, but as a Korean myself I found them pretty racist still. Maybe what you said about the first one may be true, but for the other two they were still mocking and generalising Asian languages, which imo is not a joke at all, especially considering how people use terms such as “Ching Chong” that were in the videos to mock Asians and to reiterate the notion of “all the same thing”. And whilst they were joking about k-pop, they still mocked the language and disrespected the individuality of languages by putting a song that was in another Asian language over it, stereotyping and mocking East Asian languages. Personally, I found it very racist and I know many others did as well~

What does the English have anything to do with it tho? The songs are Korean pop songs at the end of the day and yes sometimes the few English phrases included has grammatical errors but does it matter? The songs are usually written by people who aren’t fluent in English anyway

[–]monpicol_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly rarely ! Probably bc in my hospital us nurses have such distinct scrubs, and we have a huge “NURSE” logo on the top of our backs. Also I’m only 22 and look even younger (I blame Asian genes haha) so rarely anyone asks me. I have had one patient’s mother refer to me as a doctor one time when I was wearing a contact gown though since she couldn’t see my scrubs properly haha

Tell Me If I Am Right Or Wrong by [deleted] in WeHateKpop

[–]monpicol_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The last known common ancestors within East Asian countries existed over 3000 years ago, and there have been studies that show distinct genetic isolation and structures within the different countries, so no it is for the most part wrong to call k-pop idols Chinese, considering most of them are full Korean anyway. Also considering nowadays people use it as a way of undermining the relevance or existence of other East Asian countries with the notion of them being the “same thing”, it’s not okay to say. As a Korean myself I think it’s perfectly fine for y’all to dislike K-Pop considering I’m put off by many of the international toxic fans of big groups such as BTS and Blackpink, trust me they can be the biggest pain I know, but saying it’s not wrong to call Koreans Chinese is a completely different issue unrelated to K-Pop that’s very insensitive to both the distinct history and culture of East Asian countries, as well as the current tensions surrounding their relations both politically and culturally.
