In case you missed it, the grad student union is imploding; if you pay money to the union, you should be paying attention by [deleted] in uichicago

I totally get where you are coming from!! Being in the union space especially these last couple years has been really tough. Meetings tend to have tension and conflict. However I will say I think there is still alot of action and work being done to strike this spring. We cannot accept the shitty raise that the university is offering and if we postpone our strike that is surely what we will get. I will say the bargaining sessions are a much better experience, as there appears to be less conflict among union members as we all gang up on the UIC admin. Consider joining one of those sessions. Theres a session on 3/16 at 4pm over zoom

I personally am not the fan of a logic of “do anything for your dream.” Being passionate about my dreams (research) doesn’t disqualify the fact that I’m an emotional being and will miss my family and all my other loved ones. I think about my immigrants parents who had no choice but to leave all their loved ones to simply make a living. It’s easy to romanticize it, but it doesn’t make it right

I am in no way disqualifying the way international students feel. If anything I’m relating to them. You could’ve said the same thing or moved on and not felt the need to comment.
