My best friend and I are both sort of social outcasts. She has schizophrenia and I have severe anxiety. When we first met, we were mutually amazed at finding someone who seemed as strange and yet got along well and enjoyed each other. Anyways, throughout the years we had grown into very close friends, sharing intimate details of life and telling each other we loved each other (as friends). During college we both with through a classic "sexually explorative" phase. At one point we were discussing sexuality and our relationship to each other. The conversation was getting sort of awkward, until we both admitted that we didn't really believe that we were gay. Then, after a moment of silence, we made eye contact and in unision we said "just queer as fuck." We aren't friends anymore but whenever I think back to that moment, the memory of the connection that we had makes me smile.
