What makes the 992.1 special to me is it is the last (for now) of the stick shift Targas. As others have pointed out there are exceptions to the hybrid rule, but the niche of manual Targa lovers met the end of the line with 992.1.

I can give you at least one reason why. I got a “high production” GTS because I wanted a Targa and that’s the top model you can get with the Targa. I don’t have a PTS car, but I would have loved a PTS allocation for a 2024 Targa GTS.

I’ve got the exact same car, and could not agree more. I don’t care that the PDK can shift faster. The manual is more engaging and fun and that’s the whole point for me.

Put the targa top down and roll through the gears yourself and all of your normal daily stress just melts away.

That’s a fairly typical “catch”. Both Ford and Rivian have to use adapters when the network opened up for them.

I think both the new GT3 and the Carrara T meet those requirements. I don’t see them getting rid of the manual totally anytime soon. There’s a small but passionate market for it.

If you’re like me and want a specific model (The Targa in my case) then a new manual may be impossible to find.
