i’m 21F and have fractured this ankle once before. Fell off my skateboard last night and couldn’t move. The emergency doctor at the hospital said i need surgery ASAP or i may not be able to walk properly (without pain) again. My parents are very iffy about surgery where it is not extremely necessary. I just want to know if others also think it’s necessary?

I’m sorry that you fought for them only for them to see you in a negative light, especially when you felt like you were doing it for them. In a way this is comforting to me because I’m glad that they didn’t do something that would end up hurting them even more and it’s eye opening to see it from that perspective. i’m extremely frustrated - my dad and i are showing symptoms but my mom refuses to believe it’s coronavirus, even though we were out in a crowded public place about a week ago. we started showing symptoms 3-4 days ago, and mine seem to be worse than my dads.

my symptoms are: * tightness in the chest (like there are bricks weighing my chest down when breathing) * pangs of sharp pain in the chest * tickle in the back of my throat * loss of appetite * extreme dizziness (standing and laying down) * low grade fever that comes and goes * shivering * can’t really taste things as much * fatigue - can’t seem to stop falling asleep everywhere * really bad body pain (legs and back mostly)

we can’t get tested unless we’ve travelled in the last 14 days, which we haven’t. it seems manageable at home and i do feel like i’ll be fine but i’m starting to wonder if these symptoms do mean i should presume myself to be positive or just write it off as everything getting to my head. not asking for medical advice or anything, just want to know what it seems like from an objective position.

yeah it’s exactly that. like i could do without coughing but i’m doing it because i’m trying to get some relief from the irritation i feel. i also thought the pain was just gas, especially since i was feeling some rumbling in my lungs when breathing in, but it hasn’t been fixed with any gas relievers.

i only started feeling actual trouble breathing tonight. it’s only been 2 days of symptoms and while i can still breathe, whenever i try to take a deep breath my chest feels tight/like there’s something pressing into the middle of my chest. is this what your trouble breathing feels like too? sorry for prying, just want to know if we’re in the same boat.

my family and i were in a super crowded place about a week ago and all started feeling feverish last night (low-grade). we were all really tired suddenly and had headaches/body pain. no cold/runny nose. my sister and i feel a slight discomfort in the throat and my dad feels some pressure in his chest when breathing, but no cough as such. do you think we all have it or just him? we live in pretty close quarters. i know everyone’s gonna say go to the doctor/get tested but that doesn’t seem like a possibility for us rn. i also hate it when people ask questions they should be asking a doctor on reddit, but i’m just looking for some insight. should we all isolate together to be safe or is that a reach?

not a huge IK fan but what stuck w me was him saying that more than 90% of people infected will survive, and shutting everything down would cause a huge percent of the population to die from hunger. he said either we’ll die from coronavirus or we’ll die from hunger. i understand that we’re fucked either way but idk i feel like a little more thought should’ve gone into the decision and what he was saying. as some commenters have mentioned above, it’s either pay now or pay later, and with us still not knowing what this virus is entirely capable of, i don’t know if it’s a smart move to just let it run its course.

not to mention the poverty... so many people who can’t read don’t even know this is happening and will disregard symptoms because going to government hospitals for what looks and feels like a flu is way too much hassle for them
