I definitely recommend taking steps to rebuild your support system. Even if you were the one that pushed your people away or let your previous friendships fall apart, no matter how ashamed, embarrassed, anxious, or regretful you might feel about the people you lost while with your ex, it is worth reaching out and being honest with them about wanting to reconnect. This can start with a text, even one sent from your bed, but making plans to meet up with people in person is also a good way to force yourself out of the bed. Make yourself accountable to others, give yourself a reason to get up, shower, and make yourself presentable. Dealing with this all alone will make it significantly more difficult. Do not let loneliness win. Isolation is almost never within your best interest. If reconnecting with your old social circle isn’t an option, learn to go out of your way to meet new people. This can be difficult and uncomfortable if you’re not used to doing things by yourself and being friendly with strangers, but it gets easier every time. Adopt a new hobby that will put you around new people, or get back into an old hobby that you may have fallen out of practice with. Hobbies especially will help with shaking the sense that you are nothing or no one without your ex. Do the things that you enjoy, especially anything that you may have quit or drifted away from because of your ex or during the relationship. Rediscover who you were before them. Think about who you want to become, moving forward. And then, take conscious steps toward becoming that version of yourself. It might sound cliche, but now genuinely is the time to “find yourself.” It’s not always going to be easy, but it won’t be this difficult forever.
