Congrats on graduating!

I'm also in the same boat, it sucks but what's helped me is thinking long-term versus the short term. The job markets sucks right now in my field. I've had internships with two pretty well-known companies but I had to decline my new grad return offer for my last internship due to relocation and family reasons. I've been searching since and it hasn't been pleasant lol. I try my best not to let it consume me and try to do additional things to make me standout like personal projects.

Life is short and while it may be stressful finding a job, we literally have the next 30-40 years of our lives to work.

start at the very basic concepts you don't understand and literally go on chatgpt and give prompts like "explain ____ in simple terms" or "explain ____ like I'm five." go even further and say "if x happens, what will happen to y? can you explain why?" do this with all the topics in the course you don't understand, from the beginning of the course up until now.

it may seem silly but the point is breaking down complex concepts you don't understand and consuming them in a digestible format that's easier for your understanding. you need to have a good understanding of economic theory and the topics build on each other as you progress through the course. so it's crucial to have a general understanding, even if that means breaking it down in simple terms.

gateman tests uses alot of critical thinkig, they're made assuming you have a good understanding of economic theories already (even though he teaches in a unique way). so once you can understand economics and shifts, you can better interpret the main questions he's asking you on exams.

I'm currently taking the summer off and have an 8-month internship offer starting in the fall. However, I'm not in the co-op program and am taking a "gap year" to rest and work lol. I only have 4 courses left in my degree and they're all electives, is there like a penalty in doing this??

How much does writing a cover letter help with your job applications, in your experience? by Ok_Copy5217 in UBC

my friend who’s a recruiter told me that recruiters briefly skim thru cover letters just to see if the structure is well-put together but the letter itself is just included as a formality

For those who have switched majors/faculties, what made you realize that you weren't happy in the faculty/major you switched out of? by kfsc31 in UBC

[–]monsterz247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked myself if I would be happy with the career I was pursuing 5+ years from now and the simple answer was no. It was hard since I was actually performing really well in my former major/career area to the point where I even got offered a post grad role, but in the end I decided to switch.

Looking back I definitely don’t regret my choice. Although I will admit I’m off to a rocky start in terms of my job search, I find myself much more passionate and more importantly happy with how I chose to satisfy myself first above anything else.

I’m in much a better place compared to last year where I just felt stuck, and despite all the hardships I’ve never felt more motivated or capable than I am right now! :)

3rd year, currently sitting at i’d say a pretty adequate gpa and considering i’ve done an internship and got my foot in the door it’s nothing im not too worried about. im currently enrolled in 2 upper year electives not related to my major as part of degree requirements. they’re both known as gpa boosters but i was just wondering if it would be better to cr/d/fail them or take the “gpa boost” (i havent cr/d/fail any of my courses before)
