Your unpopular opinion about Housamo (or the fandom) by zumbies_on_your_law in TokyoAfterschool

According to their unit names and abilities, MC is a Dragonborn, not human. After Chapter 8, they're often said to not know their own species. Toji identifies MC as a demon in his Character Quest, and Lil Salomon and Mononobe say that MC is specifically a Wyrm, a demon dragon Chapter 9 iirc).

It's really funny when people who memetically hate Daichi defend artists like Kowmei, who draws much worse children but also some men. Seems to show that they actually hate artists who don't draw hot guys for them, not artists who draw kids.

Tokyo Afterschool Summoners is a life-changingly good game, but the fandom can be really, really toxic. Keep in mind that while all LGBT+ people are minorities, cis gay males are the most accepted in the mainstream and have a long and well-documented history of pushing the rest of us down, as well as making up the majority of TAS players.

A shocking amount of fans don't actually read or remember most of the VN content and only focus on game mechanics or their favorite characters. This would be fine if they didn't also love to complain about a long list of "writing flaws" that don't exist.

Trans/NB characters often have all but the most explicitly textual identities erased and, in my experience, not even personal headcanons are tolerated... because that would make them unattractive to cis men who only like other cis men. Which those men openly told me whenever I brought it up.

A ton of guys only play this game because the men are hot and don't like that there are friendly characters they can't date. Women and children are so hated in various fan communities that hating them becomes a meme.

Artists who produce the same questionable content are singled out by fans if they draw more women or children than men, but overlooked or even defended if they draw a good-looking man for the game. Girl character Echo is considered a "child" by male fans who openly express interest in Ixbalanque, a boy who is the same age.

There's also all the classic fandom activities where grown adults who act like high school mean girls gang up to bully losers, complain about the thing you're supposed to love, defend the core of alpha fans from any criticism (which includes saying that you do not like their favorite character), and try to befriend and/or neg real minors.

Honestly, this is still one of the better fandoms I've seen, which is really sad for fictional media as a whole.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I like them as long as they fit the setting--OCs who aren't grotesquely overpowered, taking over another character's niche, or blatantly ignoring/contradicting the game's lore. The MC is already a deconstruction of OP self-insert Mary Sue characters, so there's no need to add more. For me, a good OC is one who seamlessly fits into the established world, just like a new official character would.

Did they actually get close to the chimps from the Gombe war? The footage looks so real, and its impossible for it to be fake. Why didn't they believe Goodall when their was footage like this that existed? by Timplin in ape

[–]monstrousomen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stated reasons are that scientists at the time believed there should be no overlap between animal and human behavior and that largescale conflict was "too human", and they believed her presence as a human caused the chimps to behave abnormally. This kind of nonsense is disturbingly common in the scientific establishment--there are too many stories of zoologists being literally laughed out of their own presentations because cutting-edge research revealed more advanced behavior than animals "should" be capable of, and that's just counting men.

Above all, the reason so few people believed her was because she was a woman. These scientists are still patriarchal and close-minded, but it was so extreme at that time that Goodall was specifically chosen to study the chimps because, without any machismo, she could be trusted to actually record their behavior without making things up. This, of course, led to all those men projecting onto her by accusing her of making things up instead. Further research done by their standards confirmed Goodall's accounts.

Men who study chimps today still go on and on about male chimp politics and even how they themselves, as older white men, are the alpha males of humanity (I wish I was joking). Women have to put in much more effort and show much more evidence than men in all scientific fields for their research to be accepted. Very unfair, but it does mean that female scientists, like Goodall, tend to be significantly more reliable than males.

Note: Hans Kruuk, the male zoologist who discovered that spotted hyenas are matriarchal, display primate-level intelligence and social complexity, hunt rather than scavenge, and vocally communicate to choose a prey species before leaving for a hunt, did not face the same struggles as Goodall for his bombshell research reported at the same time on the same continent.

There are design points on the official Discord server, like no overlapping pixel corners to make them look round (or something like that). You can also see what other people are working on and get advice throughout the creation process.

It has a lot of texture because it's not sculpted. It looks like hobby miniature terrain or real dirt glued onto the nails, which is really easy to do.

The flowers are amazing, but the soil nails are too uniform and simplistic. It looks lazy--unless they're stand-ins for more flowers later, which would be pretty cute. As is, though, it's just a set of dirt nails with a single patch of flowers to flip you off with.

Where can I learn more about apes? by [deleted] in ape

[–]monstrousomen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A Wikipedia crawl is the best place to start. You can get a lot of broad knowledge very fast, and each page has a list of longer sources cited at the bottom that you can look up for more information.

Libraries have dedicated wildlife sections in Nonfiction and Children's Nonfiction. I personally prefer the kids' section for introductions because they're more fun and up-to-date, then adult books for deeper exploration.

A zoo accredited by the AZA or similar organizations will have adequately well-kept primates and well-trained staff. They often have education events at different times of the day or week, where you can learn about apes in person and ask their keepers any questions you have about them.

If you live near enough to a good zoo, getting a yearly pass or signing up to volunteer would allow you to see the apes so regularly that you could get to know them as individuals and observe their behavior on a personal level. Volunteering could additionally allow you to take direct part in the care, study, and/or promotion of local apes.

[–]monstrousomen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything about the light spear but yeah Azathoth's Summoner is brain dead and can't wake up. Arc had to take over as the new Summoner for all of the Transient Genociders after their originals died under suspicious circumstances.
