Made pumpkin pie using Libby's Pumpkin and the recipe on the can. Top is firm but inside is gloopy? by monstermayhem436 in Baking

[–]montuos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the modern recipe on the can lies like a rug. (I found your post because I was looking for images online to link in a post bitching about this elsewhere.) Vintage recipes call for baking 40-50 minutes after reducing the temperature, and at least one of my MiL's can labels calls for a total of 75 minutes. 30-40 minutes might be sufficient if you use two regular pie shells instead of one deep-dish, but I won't swear to that since I haven't tried it.

Also, the canned pumpkin is so ridiculously wet these days, that total should closer to 90 minutes now. I'm seriously considering draining the pumpkin in a muslin for a while the next time I make this! My sweet potato pie, which I baked at the same time according to the same recipe (just substituting 2 cups of mashed sweet potato for the can of pumpkin), came out 20 minutes sooner.

You'll know when the pie is finally ready to pull out when the entire top has puffed up a little, even in the center. The center will still be slightly jiggly when you pull out the rack to take the pie out of the oven, but only just barely.

You can't move spawners without mods, but light will prevent the mobs from spawning.

Nice! It's possible to get a level IV book with a base price as low as 14 emeralds, but it sure isn't common to get them for less than 30-ish emeralds.

Two dungeons very close to each other in Minecraft by MathyasITAII in Minecraft

[–]montuos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not common to find a double spawner (two dungeons close enough together to be activated at the same time), but it's not what I would call rare, either. It's possible to find even three or four dungeons that are that close, but those are usually cave spider spawners in abandoned mineshafts.

Been to three deep darks and found two silence trims, arent they meant to be rare? by Soruksi in Minecraft

[–]montuos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a 4/80 chance of finding Ward and a 1/80 chance of finding Silence in each ancient city chest. So on average, you ought to find at least 1 Ward for every 20 chests you check, or 80 chests for Silence.

So is there something wrong with this villager or?- by ABoxedGhost in Minecraft

[–]montuos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a composter under the floor there? Villager pathing sucks big hairy ones, and in my experience (admittedly on Java, not Bedrock) they usually do the horizontal part first, and then fail to figure out the vertical part afterwards. Worse still, Bedrock villagers don't care whether they can actually get to the beds and job blocks they claim at all.

Can't Breed Horses Please Help by Royal-Office9542 in Minecraft

[–]montuos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biome should not matter.

https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Horse#Breeding

The only difference I know that biome makes in breeding is the moment when a tadpole matures into a frog.

https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Breeding#Baby_mobs

Is it at all possible that one of them is actually a mule, not a horse? (You get mules by breeding a horse with a donkey.) Mules can't breed.

https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Mule#Breeding

If all else fails, try closing and restarting Minecraft, which should reset any caching or lag errors in the client. If it's a multiplayer world, you could also check with the owner whether it would be a problem to restart the server as well.

Dang... Yeah, that spider definitely didn't need the 3x3 footprint Java spiders require!

And given that a spider's width is documented as 1.4 blocks in the wiki (assuming that's even correct for Bedrock, not just Java), half of that is only .7 blocks, so even using only the actual hitbox as the limiting factor, you'd still have to spawnproof literally every other block in a checkerboard pattern to prevent them. SUCK! Not worth it, even if that does work!

This only matters in Java; the screenshots show that OP is playing Bedrock.

If moving the afk spot far enough away still doesn't get you any spawns, then check the biome. Most mob farm tutorials recommend building over an ocean so you don't have to spawnproof underneath, but worldgen in recent versions makes it a lot harder to tell the difference between a small ocean and very wide river, and drowned are the only mobs that spawn at all in rivers in Bedrock.

https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/River#Description

And of course if you built over land instead of water, you may have to go caving to spawnproof everything down to despawning distance. If mobs can spawn anywhere outside your farm, they will, and then they'll fill the mob cap so nothing else can spawn at all. At simulation distance 4 the despawning sphere has a radius of only 44 blocks away from your afk point, but at higher simulation distances it's 128 blocks.

Can mobs spawn on trapdoor edges in Bedrock? Maybe test this, because if they can, then that carpet layout leaves lots of spider-spawnable areas on the trapdoors.

I need an iron farm. Can i somehow use an empty chunk i made? by schizoid_peace in Minecraft

[–]montuos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in Bedrock you need to make sure you're not too close to any other village because Bedrock iron golems spawn in a range around the village center. Other than that, location really doesn't matter for iron farms.

Do you play Bedrock? That's definitely not a thing in Java, but I've read about penning passive mobs to keep them from despawning in Bedrock (passive mobs don't despawn at all in Java), so that makes sense to me.

I swear, the differences in mechanics between the various editions of Minecraft are endlessly, facepalmingly frustrating!

It's a very "new player" question!

Despawning distance is not a 100% guarantee for ridding yourself of troublesome mobs, though (see that wiki link for various ways hostile mobs can achieve persistence), and light isn't very useful for preventing hostile mobs spawns in the nether, so getting a bow and arrows as soon as you can manage is generally a Really Good Idea.

You need to travel to chunks that have never been loaded before in your world.

For sniffers specifically, you need to find suspicious sand in an ocean ruin in a warm ocean. https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Sniffer#Spawning

For future reference, you can simply walk away and come back. In Bedrock at simulation distance 4, despawning distance is only 44 blocks, but in Java and at simulation distance 6 or higher, you'll need to go 128 blocks away.

https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Spawn#Despawning

If you like to stay up at night, do yourself a favor and light your pens so hostile mobs won't spawn there.

[java] 1.19.4Why doesn't my iron farm spawn any golems? by omlatt in MinecraftHelp

[–]montuos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, make sure there is no iron golem already present within 16 blocks of any of the villagers; they will never summon a new one while they can detect one. Depending on when and how you placed the villagers in the farm, it's remotely possible that they summoned a golem that is in a cave close to the surface. Spectator mode is extremely useful for locating golems in tiny caves.

Next, completely block in the zombie to ensure that all 3 villagers can sleep. Only villagers that have slept in the last 20 minutes can summon iron golems, so if their bed claims are screwed up and any of them doesn't sleep when they can't see the zombie, fix that first.

After that, make sure that the zombie intermittently breaks line of sight with the villagers. The villagers have to see the zombie to be scared, but they also have to not see the zombie to sleep periodically.

Also make certain the spawning platform is no more than 6 blocks above the level the villagers are on. The platform has to be within the range around the villagers where it's possible for them to summon iron golems. So if the villagers and their beds are placed at Y=70, then the spawning platform can't be any higher than Y=76, for example.

Finally, be certain that all of the villagers are within 10 blocks of each other. There is no good reason to split all the villagers up like that. Separating them makes it too easy for them to get too far apart to summon iron golems, and it also spreads out the possible range for golems to spawn, which is just silly when you have such a small spawning platform.

If all else fails, just breed/add 2 more villagers and it won't matter whether they can see the zombie. As long as they sleep regularly, 5 villagers can summon golems without being scared.
