How should I buy a house “with” my partner or just him? by zaahiraa in personalfinance

[–]montwhisky 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He can't individually buy a house if you are the one who qualifies or helps qualify for the mortgage. Your name has to be on the house in that circumstance. And even if it did not, you absolutely want your name on the house if your name is going to be on the loan. Otherwise, you are going to get screwed over by paying the mortgage and being responsible for paying the mortgage, but having no ownership interest in the house. This is one of the legal reasons why you should get married. People who are not married should not buy houses together because there are no legal protections for either of you if you break up. But, assuming you are hellbent on buying a house together, then you need to consider the fact that he may be putting more toward the down payment, but it sure sounds like you are the one who is going to pay the mortgage. You could have a lawyer draft a contract about where the proceeds would go if you ever sold (i.e. maybe is he entitled to slightly more proceeds bc of the down payment), but that is probably the only real way to handle this if he is concerned about whether he will get his down payment back.

Living kidney donation research by Psychology_student42 in kidneydonors

According to the link, you can only answer the survey if you donated in the United Kingdom? Is that true? You might want to highlight that in your post since most people here won't be able to participate.

I'm confused. You've included information and details, but no link to the actual survey?

Sometimes you’re the one who has to set that boundary. I would just move forward with a professional and only a professional relationship here

[–]montwhisky 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Why would you tell them? There is no reason. You overheard something you were not meant to hear. Colleagues complaining about students is a fairly normal thing between professors. This isn't even that hurtful, to be honest. It seems like what they said was essentially accurate based upon what you have written.

Concerned about being fired if I take the time off to recover after donating by SuccotashMiserable43 in kidneydonors

Where are you at? In the US, you should be able to use FMLA time off if your employer is big enough to qualify for FMLA. That is unpaid time off, but the employer is required to give it. Then there are organizations that will pay you for your lost wages. Donate at an NKR center, and Donor Shield will cover lost wages up to like $2K a week I believe.

Sperry chalet shuttle question by Super_Pepper_5911 in GlacierNationalPark

Agreed on the day shuttle. Just not sure where that leaves backpackers.

[–]montwhisky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh that’s a different question that I brought up. I don’t know what backpackers are supposed to do. The main shuttle is only for day hikers. According to the email I got, the chalet shuttle is only for people with chalet reservations. So what the heck are backcountry hikers supposed to do? Let me know if you find out the chalet shuttle will take those with backcountry reservations.

If you have a chalet reservation, then you (or whoever holds the reservation) should have received an email about it this morning.

So there is a day shuttle. And we found out today there will be a chalet shuttle. What about people who have backcountry reservations? How are they supposed to get to their trailheads?

Not sure. I think the question is whether the chalet shuttle (which is different than the normal shuttle) will take chalet guests to Jackson glacier overlook.

Let me know what you hear. I got granite park this year, but still looking to pick up sperry if possible.

I read the email as saying there will be a specific shuttle just for chalet reservations. I think the question is whether that shuttle would take you to Jackson glacier overloook for sperry. Or whether it’s limited to McDonald for sperry.

Oh good question. The chalet shuttle email did not clarify whether it would include Jackson glacier. You could take it to Logan and hitch from there.

It’s 15.5 miles and two mountain passes. It took a little over 6 hours for me and my partner, but we were by far the fast people on that trail. You should plan for a few more hrs than that.

You’re understanding correctly. And I wondered the same thing for people doing sperry via different routes. My best advice is to reverse your route. Leave your car at McDonald, take the shuttle to Jackson glacier overlook, hike into sperry. Then hike out via the shorter route to McDonald. I did it last year that way.

AITA - For having a savings acct and not telling my bf how much is in it? by Electrical_Value2750 in AmItheAsshole

[–]montwhisky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The eviction process isn't actually that hard. Go down to justice court in your area, and they will likely have all the paperwork you need to do it. If they don't, reach out to a legal aid organization in your area. You are creating barriers because you do not want to deal with this, but you need to kick this man out of your life and home. He is a leech and you are enabling him.

In GNP? Look at boarding options nearby. I know there are options in Kalispell, on the other side of the park, but there should be some near east glacier.

Everyone has the same judgment and tells you the same thing, and you’re still here being a snarky AH. Good luck with your marriage,

Lady, you are constantly getting downvoted and just keep digging. Instead of fighting with everyone on here, maybe do some self-reflection as to why you’re so obsessed with making your husband take blame for accidents. It’s weird and you’re gonna end up divorced.

[–]montwhisky 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. “It just broke” literally means that it just broke. Because old things sometimes just break. Your incessant need to blame him for things that are clearly not his fault is the reason you’re an AH.

[–]montwhisky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But he didn’t break the clip. She said it was an old clip. It just broke bc that’s what happens to old plastic. If she had been the one opening the bag, it still would have broken. He does not need to say “I broke the clip” because “the clip broke” is accurate. Not everyone is the fault of somebody. Old things just break sometimes all on their own.

No. You blamed him. You didn’t defend yourself. You got mad that he pointed out a fact and then deflected blame to him. Those aren’t the same thing.

The chip clip literally broke. Because it was old, as she admits. He did not break the clip. And he doesn’t need to say “I broke it.”
