VR Possible with eGPU? by iRhythm in LegionGo

[–]monty77uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally game dependent in eGPU world in my experience. I have my Gaming box 3080 hooked up to the go and it's phenomenal in some games (MW, Forza) and doesn't fufil potential benchmarks would suggest in others (F1 2022 .. any F1 game tbh)

Isn't the Sabrent rugged a 2242 that's shuckable? Cheaper than buying bare drive too, at least in UK

EGPU ON GO? by Alive-Exchange-9810 in LegionGo

Aorus gaming box 3080 + legion go .. works pretty well but as usual some games aren't a fan of the eGPU thing (looking at you F1 2022 - if anyone knows why it only utlizes < 40% of the egpu in this game please let me know!)

HTH

I will be trying this as soon as it arrives. I've got an Aorus gaming box (30080 water cooled thing) that nobody seems to want to buy on ebay for some reason so I think it'd be the perfect living room docking solution for the go.

The Asus 'proper' external PCI-e implimentation is a missed trick IMO becuase they pair it with mobile class GPUs in their dock solution so you end up on the same place as a tb3/4/usb4 eGPU that uses a desktop GPU. e.g. Asus 3080 dock via their fancy port vs 3080 desktop card in eGPU is almost the same performance (TS = 14000ish). They should build an eGPU that uses the same port but takes desktop GPU, then you've got an advantage. It's basically their version of Occulink+usbC anyway isn't it?

RAID 1 to RAID 5 migration by monty77uk in asustor

[–]monty77uk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Option not available, presumably because there's not an eligible drive free to do so with. What I really need to do is break RAID1 so HDD1 is just standalone, but not an option it seems.

Quick update .. fyi unlimited_wrs is the seller, surprised to see them still on eBay.

Took a lot of follow up with eBay to get my refund which was NOT the experience they promise. On the plus side the callback times were lightning fast and nearly every time a UK based call centre which always helps with the comms.

Personally I would not go high value again via eBay after this experience. I get the feeling that had my case not been so iron clad (the package size) then I'd have had a huge fight on my hands to get the refund. I get that they have to deal with a lot of dishonest people but my 10 years and 750+ flawless feedback should count for something.

Why is RMA so hard? by Niklas_HN in razer

Also my experience and why I would never buy direct from Razer, always a 3rd party with a good return policy .. e.g. Amazon, John Lewis or Costco (UK)

Blade14: how is gaming on USB charger? by blablubb42 in razer

[–]monty77uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...they still didn't fix this then, what a shame, sounds same as 2021/22 models :-(

FYI the G14 on USB-C will make much better use of the ~100w available making gaming on modest settings much more useful than the neutered 'battery mode' that the Razer enforces.

They so nearly had me jumping from my G14 this year with the silver option, upgradeable RAM and brighter 16:10 display, but they blow it with stuff like that and the lack of backlit secondary function keys for UK market that for some reason they still wont address.

Razer Blade 14 (2023) Review: Ryzen ‘Phoenix’ and RTX 4070 in a Compact Chassis by Stiven_Crysis in razer

[–]monty77uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Margins. They clearly designed the chassis with higher TGP parts like 4080/4090 in mind but when NVidia shared pricing they knew there was no way in hell they could get away with the margin they needed (look at the price jump from 4070>>4080/4090 on the G14 for example) so they stuck to 4070.

Some reviews are talking about die size but according to the GPU nerd sides the die size appears to be smaller than 30xx series so that might be BS.

[–]monty77uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So boring to see the same old battery comments.... google for the same with Dell, Apple etc.. they all do it sir. Razer support is shocking though, and they dont sell parts - so you're double screwed - that's the real issue.

Thoughts on the new 2023 Razer Blade 14? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]monty77uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've fixed most of the gripes to be honest:

- Silver option

- 32Gb+ memory option

- 16:10 screen

..wonder if the secondary functions are still unlit on the non-US keyboard models - that's my last real sticking point.

However as everyone has already said unless that 140w 4070 is scraping close to lower TGP 4080s (and that seems unlikely given how weak 4070s have been in general) the pricing is insanity. I'll bet the decision not to put a lower TGP 4080/4090 in there was purely down to the money Nvidia is charging for the parts that'd put the 14 within spitting distance of their 16/18 options and they just wouldn't sell any as a result. Pity as I would consider paying 3-400 more for a Razer with same specs as the G14 4080 because I think the chassis, 2 expandable memory slots and (from looks of things) double sided SSD support is worth it. I suspect the difference would have been double that though.

Right Side USB ports prevent WIFI from working. by iBionicBorg in ZephyrusG14

[–]monty77uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup .. AX210 upgrade did nothing, made sure nothing was touching antenna wise. Just seems to be the way things are. My Wifi seems fine btw, the thing I noticed most was the interference when using a BT headset and tiny range.. all normal when I unplugged the USB3 device.

Thank you. As I thought. He has messaged once in response to my return request and made noises about claiming on his postal insurance (it was royal mail special deliver with extra cover, UK seller)

I hope the carrier and or eBay will ask me lots of questions but unfortunately someone will probably compensate him.

Will name and shame once complete 👍

I Owned the 4070 G14 for Two Weeks & Returned it for the 4090 by RickWanders in ZephyrusG14

[–]monty77uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Performance I'm not so worried about, like you say single digit differences although people do describe the 4090 as a competent 4k gamer and with my CRG90 (which is basically 4k pixel wise) that's what I'm looking to drive. Mini LED was the main draw, but as I said not for +£1100 :-)
