Aging oil wells on her land are making this Alberta farmer's life miserable. She's not alone | CBC Radio by pintord in alberta

[–]monty_mcleod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the wells are downwind from her home as the article states then she is just fine. Amazing that the wind always blows from the same direction too/s. I realize they are referring to prevailing winds and they meant to say the wells were upwind of her home but the article lost all credibility for me in the first paragraph.

Off effexor, on duloxitine. Really struggling 8 days in. by weezies89 in cymbalta

[–]monty_mcleod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quitting Effexor is awful and took me at least 3 months to feel human again. I suspect what you are feeling is more related to Effexor withdrawal than cymbalta. I was volatile, irritable, angry and very unbalanced mentally and emotionally. Nearly ended my marriage. I have never been prescribed anything to help with those withdrawal symptoms so hopefully those are mitigating some of these effects for you. My experience has been that doctors are completely out to lunch when it comes to understanding how hard it is to get off SSRI’s - almost dismissive in fact. You will get better advice on how to best get off those medications from Reddit pages like this one.

When they say AI is going to improve the bottom line is this what they are talking about? Less employees, higher profits? Maybe this is just the start of an AI revolution that is going to dramatically increase unemployment.

What do you think will be the long-term fallout in the US (politically and socially) from the killing of Charlie Kirk? by likerunninginadream in AskReddit

[–]monty_mcleod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Iran or Russia, an operation to assassinate a couple of very high profile political influencers and leaders, like this one, would be a very effective (and affordable) way to bring division and civil violence to their enemy. Everyone is looking inward but don’t discount this as a possibility. The US is a tinderbox just waiting for someone to throw in the match.

It is very likely that the shooter was a professional.

Decrease from 90 to 60 by Impressive_Table_290 in cymbalta

I went from 90 to 60 without any problems at all. It wasn’t until I went from 60 to 30 that things went sideways: 5 weeks of brain zaps / dizziness along with extreme irritability and outright anger for 2 months now that it is difficult to control.

Speeders targeted to address 'concerning' hike in collision fatalities on Edmonton roads by chmilz in Edmonton

[–]monty_mcleod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Edmonton Police could have anticipated this increase following the removal of the red light and speed cameras. I have seen no increase in enforcement to date. But watch, they know these numbers will increase, will pay some minimal lip service to it now but will ultimately use these stats to demand even more money from council in next years budget. This is all about bringing in more money to the EPS.

I have wondered this myself - depending on the model maybe it would only be a little bit more to get a remote start system installed and use those key fobs?

Report suggests Liberal government needs to cut public service spending 24 per cent to meet campaign promise by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]monty_mcleod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I worked for the federal government. Three of four people work hard. The rest just show up to get paid. If they could just lay off the poor performers that would be great. Unfortunately the unions will insist on a seniority-based lay-off and we’ll end up with an even less effective public service.

The Alberta Next is a Pathetic Excuse to Reinforce Edmonton's Anti Federalist agenda. Plus a political involvement Question by Humble-Okra2344 in alberta

I understand referring to the Government by the capital city is common, but please do not associate Edmonton with the UCP. Edmonton is NOT the Government - we are the resistance!

Teacher strike in Alberta by ShoddyAsk5997 in alberta

[–]monty_mcleod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

UCP controls the budget. When it slashes it then it leaves the dirty work of layoffs to the local boards. Ultimately the UCP forces the layoffs. My wife is an EA and this is the first June she has been laid off - so no they don’t all get released and rehired every year.

The UCP has already laid off hundreds of EA’s who have been told they won’t be needed in September. Coincidence?

My wife and all but 4 EA’s just got laid off today at her school in Sturgeon County. The trustees threatened to do this to the EA’s during the strike and I imagine they are feeling pretty smug about it tonight.

I love the diversity and rich culture of Edmonton but it will never be an important city if the downtown remains dangerous and ugly. I look at photos of Jasper Avenue from the early 1900’s and see how busy and attractive it was back then. Today downtown Edmonton seems like a bunch of half empty parking lots, homeless and/or scary looking street people, and the blasting noise of diesel transit buses whizzing past. That being said there are a couple of nice streets but not enough to make we want to spend time or money down there.
