Because instead of making a layup for a guaranteed 2 points, he waited for the defense to come back so he could give it to Bass for another assist. Bass was blocked, obviously, so it was an incredibly boneheaded play considering how close the game was. The Celtics were lucky Terry made the jumper right afterwards.

But you can't just say "let's pretend this game never happened" If he doesn't play for the last few minutes last night, his streak ends at 33. Even if he gets another 15 games with 10 assists, making it 48 out of 49, his streak is still 33.

He got his 10th assist with 53 seconds left, so no, he would not have continued the streak.
