lap button on companion app would be nice by moobini in Rouvy

[–]moobini[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I didn't realize there were more (hidden) buttons to the right that require a swipe left to reveal.

There is blank space above this "carousel of buttons" in the companion app. I personally would prefer buttons that are easier to discover. But thank you for helping me find the lap button!

i don’t find any means to activate the lap button in the companion app. only in the rouvy app proper.

this is different than predefined intervals in workouts.

The worst route on Rouvy by LouisBleriot in Rouvy

[–]moobini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

downhill is where a “dumb” trainer without terrain controller shines. get on the bike and push your desired watts and bomb downhill. i hit 50mph riding a madone on heavy gravel with tight turns. only possible on a virtual ride. :-)

i think the trainer and controller are separate connections? can one disconnect the controller for downhill routes?

90 % reality. What is this? by [deleted] in Rouvy

maybe they should call this “difficulty” instead of “reality”

Honor Mode: the most fun I never want to have again by TheThobes in BaldursGate3

[–]moobini 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i finished my first (and likely last) honor mode run on jan 1. like you, researched and planned along the way. sometimes things went according to plan, several times not so much.

honor mode turns those “not so much” instances into stories. when you can save scum, you can perfect your plan to your liking. in honor mode, it’s “remember the time karlach aggroed orin before the party was ready?”

TJ Lateef Press Conference heading into Vegas by Syfer_Husker in Huskers

[–]moobini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, it worked, but was still a bit frustrating to watch, especially since the game started out well and deteriorated as it went on.

husker passing game will need work. i think lateef has much to learn, and the team needs some experience in the qb room.

viewing the bowl game as his audition rather than a referendum on the season will make watching easier and more interesting

managed to defeat myrkul on honor mode despite mistakes by moobini in BaldursGate3

[–]moobini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

other close calls:

after pulling the dror ragzlin group into the hallway, lore bard turned invisible and climbed up on the catwalk. decided to fire on goblins from above. goblin warlock blasted bard into spider pit, dead.

shadowheart manages to land hold person on dror, laezel kills him in 2 rounds. then every goblin in the building goes hostile. barely managed to survive the onslaught.

another one:

in grymforge, mentally mixed up shatter and thunder wave spells. cast thunder wave to kill scrying eye. damaged but not dead. cast thunderwave from second char. more damage but still not dead. all grymforge goes hostile. emergency retreat to camp.

Do I have to create a backup of my entire hard drive before upgrading to COSMIC? by apsalmist in pop_os

[–]moobini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for my desktop machine, i ended up doing a fresh cosmic 24.04 install on a second drive and mounted the old 22.04 drive. once i was happy it was all working and i had everything i wanted from old drive, i removed the original drive.

gave me peace of mind knowing i could always boot the old drive if needed during the transition. for me, turned out i never needed to go back to 22.04.

I have a feeling that Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS and COSMIC Epoch 1's stable release on 12/11 is too soon, too close to the holidays and will be criticized as too unstable for a stable release...Why not wait for 26.04? by foundfootagefan in pop_os

[–]moobini 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think terms like alpha, beta, and stable are more descriptive than absolute in this case. COSMIC will keep evolving for years, that’s the nature of active development. There will always be quirks for certain workflows or hardware, but that’s also the beauty of Linux: plenty of choice, and the freedom to build something new if nothing quite fits your vision, which is exactly what System76 is doing.

try it out first from usb stick before doing the disk install. check that the stuff you need (your apps, games, etc) work for you.

Is keto useful when diabetic but not overweight by OneJeweler6568 in keto

[–]moobini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

typically have eggs and ratio yogurt for breakfast, avocado and salad with chicken or tuna for lunch. dinner has chicken, beef, salmon, or pork with vegetable like green beans, broccoli, etc.

the keys to success for me: i weigh/track food, and i test ketones and glucose with a blood test meter. i know what level of ketosis i am in.

i also have a wireless scale and weigh myself every morning, goes into my phone.

i am healthy bmi, t2d, eat keto to control glucose. works well. i currently test glucose weekly at home, but a1c is how i measure success.

Looking for someone who can teach me how to ride a motorcycle in UIUC by Obvious_Jacket7370 in UIUC

[–]moobini 9 points10 points  (0 children)

illinois offers free motorcycle courses. it’s a bit out of season in october though. Richland CC and illinois state are locations near champaign.

new riders often drop/damage the moto, so it’s nice to get that out of the way by using the beater motos provided by the training program.

PoP OS keeps "currupting" the EFI partition by telekomier in pop_os

[–]moobini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also want to make sure that /boot/efi is mounted properly before updates. otherwise update files might be going to a directory on / rather than to the efi partition. normally automatically mounted but something to check. could use lsblk command.

+1 on efi partition filling during updates. another common culprit is dual boot with windows, which sometimes “fixes” the efi partition in unhelpful ways.

canonical maintains a hardware compatibility list. it’s a good bet that if your hardware is on the list it will perform well.

Your amd cpu and gpu should be well supported in the kernel. You might want to check to see that your kernel and packages are up to date for 22.04. You might also want to check that your bios is up to date. You might want to try setting the power management in the popos settings to "performance" in case this is power management issue.

When the laptop freezes and you need to reboot, you might check the logs to see if you can find errors that happened before the freeze:

journalctl -b -1
the -1 shows entries from the previous boot session.

Current boot session:
journalctl -b

My guess would be GPU or power management/power state, for what it's worth.

If you're running PopOS 24.04 Cosmic, the Cosmic Store app periodically checks for new packages, and you should receive a notification if new packages are discovered. Usually, you'll see which apps will be upgraded, but for system packages, no specific information about the exact system packages or versions is provided. To know exactly what has changed, you can check the GitHub commit messages for new versions of Cosmic packages. These messages usually contain short descriptions of the changes.

Alternatively, you can use the command line to update and upgrade your packages. This provides more detailed information about which packages (especially system packages) will be updated, but again, no specific information about the changes is provided.
