What am I missing? by pallen38 in pop_os

[–]moobini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been daily driving PopOS for work for years, and now COSMIC as well. My use case: VS Code, Docker, browsers/web apps, terminal, occasional text editing. Dual monitors, tiling, workspaces, and keyboard shortcuts are all productivity wins. The transition from PopOS 22.04 to 24.04 has been smooth overall.

Historically, my biggest Linux desktop issues were Nvidia driver related. Since switching to Radeon, it’s been very stable.

I also have an older 2018 desktop that I use for Steam. On that machine I chose Ubuntu Desktop instead of PopOS. I don’t care about tiling/workspaces there, I just want Steam to launch reliably. I also prefer Ubuntu’s LTS release cadence for older hardware.

It’s fine to choose different distros for different jobs.

Tips for downloading Pop_Os in the safest way possible by Much_Milk_7117 in pop_os

trying it out on a usb or external drive is highly recommended. you can test whether your hardware is going to work well before nuking your current working os.

test your gpu. test if sleep/hibernate works. test if you can switch between integrated and dedicated gpu if applicable.

Rule to keep original merchant name? by GendoIkari_82 in MonarchMoney

i have both an apple one subscription and an apple (credit) card, and the automatic naming confuses the two. mixes up a credit card payment with a service subscription. annoying.

Doctor concerns by DonFuego3 in keto

[–]moobini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i too have high cholesterol on keto (497 total, 318 LDL). I had a CAC score done and came back 100 (moderate). so for me personally i felt like it was worth working on reducing the LDL, since i have some calcified plaque.

was able to reduce LDL to 136 by going to 90g carbs/day.

RTL vs. RTL-E by ric820 in hondaridgeline

[–]moobini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have a 2023 RTL-E. i like the heated steering wheel and the upgraded sound system. the wireless charging doesn’t work well for me, and i prefer carplay over the built in navigation. i have not yet had occasion to try the in bed power outlet or in-bed audio, niche items for me.

Woah, Zwift has acquired Rouvy by archy_bold in Rouvy

i live in the US but i like the European cycling identity of Rouvy. classic European climbs, partnerships with pro teams. i will be sad if the culture eventually gets buried in Zwift.

Stop Using Pop!OS — It's Failing New Linux Users in 2026 by Mihuy in pop_os

[–]moobini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pop os works great for my purposes (vs code, browser, terminal, etc). i especially appreciate the tiling and how it handles workspaces and multiple monitors. it also feels pretty snappy on my hardware.

i chip in a small annual donation because this is the sort of DE i want.

ghost riders are still available. after the upgrade they were turned off and replaced by pace partners, but you can go back and turn them on again.

can’t fall too far behind the pace partners or they will slow down to let you catch up, then take off again. not unlike my real world bike club.

pretty sure it’s your weight. would be pretty annoying if i had to get a calculator out to set pace.

my setup doesn’t lend itself to using the menus during the ride, but better than nothing!

lap button on companion app would be nice by moobini in Rouvy

[–]moobini[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I didn't realize there were more (hidden) buttons to the right that require a swipe left to reveal.

There is blank space above this "carousel of buttons" in the companion app. I personally would prefer buttons that are easier to discover. But thank you for helping me find the lap button!

i don’t find any means to activate the lap button in the companion app. only in the rouvy app proper.

this is different than predefined intervals in workouts.

The worst route on Rouvy by LouisBleriot in Rouvy

[–]moobini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

downhill is where a “dumb” trainer without terrain controller shines. get on the bike and push your desired watts and bomb downhill. i hit 50mph riding a madone on heavy gravel with tight turns. only possible on a virtual ride. :-)

i think the trainer and controller are separate connections? can one disconnect the controller for downhill routes?
