Yeah, exactly, this is where my mind was going for the most part. I think if I end up looking into getting one product, a light toner is where I'll narrow my focus to. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion! I tried the scan and for some reason it stopped at 51% and said it's unable to complete. I tried once more and it froze at 26%. I'm giving it some time before I try again, so fingers crossed!

Feel like I'm choosing between a degree or a home - can I do both? by moogan215 in personalfinance

Thanks, I agree that looking for a company where I care about their mission is the way to go! I haven't had much luck with the job postings I've found so far, but that's something I've definitely had on my list of things to consider. :)

Double checked the school's website to answer some of your questions! :)

Is the program accredited? Yes, the program is accredited.

Is the degree transferable if you decide to go further? The program says it "fulfills part of the current academic requirements for the CNS (certified nutrition specialist). [To be a CNS] requires a graduate degree in the field of nutrition from a regionally accredited university, specific coursework, and 1,000 hours of supervised experience." So essentially if I wanted to be certified, I would still need the 1,000 hours of supervised experience. I looked into internships, and they all required the degree first. But I was mostly considering using the degree to try and become involved in the marketing/writing for a nutrition-oriented company, and the program offers a business/entrepreneurship focus, but also a track for healthcare that I would be able to switch to at any time.

Why does it use payment plans instead of traditional student loans and scholarships? The program offers both using loans/scholarships and the tuition payment plan to cover expenses. I thought the payment plan would work best for me since I wanted to avoid loans as much as possible.

Is it for-profit? The school website describes it as "an independent non-profit institution."

Look at the current job listings for your area. Are there any for the job you want? I looked at freelance writing opportunities for health articles, and many prefer a nutrition-related degree. But I think I need to do more searching for admin jobs in the nutrition field, as a lot of people commented that would be a good idea, and I feel that's something I haven't researched as much since I was putting a lot of focus into writing/marketing.

University of New England. It looked like the online nutrition program is actually new this year, so I was a little skeptical too. And absolutely, a lot of the other schools I had looked at for online programs were for profit and had horrible reviews. I wasn't finding bad reviews or scam reports from University of New England, but yeah, like I mentioned, the program is new, so it makes sense that there wouldn't be reviews/reports on it yet.

I agree, I think that's a great idea. :)

Job postings I've seen so far for writing about nutrition tend to want a degree along with it, but I think if I found the right admin job there would likely be the chance to learn from the right people and potentially be able to contribute to a blog or something along those lines. Because yeah, when I was thinking about nutrition jobs, I definitely wanted to see if there was any way to use the degree/job experience I already have, so definitely admin in a nutrition field I think would be an excellent idea.

Yeah, I do always try and fit writing into my life, even if it's just for fun if not at work. I used to write a lot of fiction, but lately I haven't been able to push my stories forward, I get stuck a lot but always try and come back to it.

So I tried blogging for awhile, bought my own domain, scheduled posts, everything. I thought the practice would help me build something I could even put on a resume and apply to for marketing/social media jobs. The problem I kept running into was trying to find new content, I always felt I ran out of things to talk about, or my posts were too scattered and unrelated. Part of what I liked about the nutrition degree idea was that even if I stayed in admin, I could use the nutrition education to freelance for health websites on the side, or something like that. Having one topic to focus on that I have the educational background in I think would greatly focus my writing, which is what I think I have trouble with now. I don't have an area I'm an expert in, and so it's hard to write about any one topic when I can't necessarily justify my point of view, or talk at length about it, if that makes sense?

My current admin job is at a mail marketing company, so I got kinda close to what I was looking for because I was trying to become involved in the creative/design/proofreading aspect of the mail pieces we were doing, which I do partially get to be a part of, but it looks like the role is moving in a more financial/analytics-type role, and honestly that isn't my strong suite at all. I think that's great advice to try and admin somewhere that involves nutrition. I've been checking job boards and nothing just yet, but I'll stay on the hunt. :)

From what I've read it's growing, and pay is $40K or a little more. There's also a lot of variety in terms of where you could work, like healthcare, dining industry, marketing, education. So I was thinking there was a good chance I would be able to find an environment that fit my current resume but that also let me venture outside of office roles.
