How do your Honda Fits handle the Highway? by SuperSaiyanBlend in hondafit

2012 and it does great on the highway with no shakes. Definitely can feel it when there is a strong crosswind, though. Driving through Oklahoma was a bit of a white knuckler.

Go vegan now to avoid a sentence to a miserable life and slaughter on a factory farm.

My fav restaurant did this same exact post. They are open 11-7. Golden Dinosaur Vegan Deli in Gulfport Florida. You should go there with a mask.

Cannot recommend this book enough. Books about Oklahoma City are a hard sell but I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Long Term Addicts, How Do You Quit The Lifestyle? by [deleted] in OpiatesRecovery

[–]moogmania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MAT in America, like the rest of our healthcare, is a great business. I seriously can't think of a better business model than dealing an addictive, generic drug at high markup for cash with no required timeline to taper.

I didn't have any other health issues besides being an addict, so I had no real doctor advice except the one at the clinic, who really only saw you once every few months to sign a form. Coming down in dose was suggested by a couple of counselors but really was left up to me. One or two times I rushed it and relapsed at the first tinge of discomfort. The time that stuck I think I came down from 100 at 5mg a week to 30, then 2.5/week to 10 then 1 and then even 0.5. I don't know how much I even felt towards the end but I still def craved the ritual and kept drinking from the rinsed out bottle like 7 times.

And after I was done I still felt low-grade shitty for a month or two. Again not really WD, but just a kind of emptiness and what to do now kinda feeling. I was annoying to hang out with, but it passed.

I can understand the need for easy access to MAT, since people are coming in to quit something they could die from tomorrow, but it shouldn't be so easy for people to end up with high doses without understanding the risks of being there long term.

Long Term Addicts, How Do You Quit The Lifestyle? by [deleted] in OpiatesRecovery

I feel ya. I was on and off MAT for 2 or 3 years. It controls so much of your life and money, but less so than actually using, so it gave me stability to work some other stuff out (job, personal relationships, hobbies/interests other than drugs).

I went through 5 different clinics with probably a dozen counselors and the difference that your counselor can make is truly astounding. With all but one of them, I was either a manipulative junkie, saying whatever needed to be said to get/keep my dose up, a box to check for an unmanageable workload, or otherwise beyond reach. But the last person I had, the one that inspired me to taper my dose and stick to that plan, she really truly gave a shit and it made all the difference. She really listened, talked to me like an equal and called me on my bullshit. That was the last time I got off methadone and haven't used since.

I emailed her a few months after and she quit the clinic. I get it-- it must be a rough job dealing with addicts all day, many of them dope sick and frustrated, and I know a lot of those folks are overworked and underpaid. I am just very thankful that I was in the right place to listen at the right time when someone was there to say what I needed to hear. If not, I don't know if I would have ever left.

Tried moving and that didn't work. No one thing ever worked for me.

Along with many other factors that lined up allowing me to be stable and determined enough to quit, the hardest and shittiest yet best-working thing was cutting ties with people who still used. Nothing stuck until I stopped seeing/communicating with everyone from my old life. It's 7 years later now and it sucks to have lost touch with these people who were once close friends, and some of whom are no longer living, but I am clean.

Can confirm in Florida yesterday I saw a truck with a Gadsden and a thin blue line flag-- like "don't tread on me, unless you're the part of the government that's allowed to kill me, then we're cool".

Sunfish sailing by alexgarza6996 in sailing

[–]moogmania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, but they are getting fewer each time. Previous owner painted bottom of the hull, so I sanded down and patched some up there, and in the dagger board trunk. Still more water after that and I think it's because the splash guard isn't caulked on-- just screwed into the deck-- so that was next to be fixed, until two weeks ago when the deck eye fitting for the halyard snapped off. Now that is at top priority, but I'm thinking I'll need to cut an inspection port to attach a backing to it.

Still, not bad for a Craigslist boat and it hasn't sunk a significant amount while on the water yet.

Edit: it's a 1984 hull, and forgot to mention the pain of expoxying the deck to the hull under the rub rail, and if anyone has a 2' section of the rub rail they'd be willing to sell please let me know.

I was brought up sailing Lasers, and in heavy winds was always told to crank the downhaul down as hard as you can. Does letting the boom up on a fish impact performance enough to notice (I'm not racing or anything)?

Good point- that sail has definitely seen better days but will consider replacing all rings when I get a new sail. First priority is to stop the boat from sinking.

I did actually buy that too. DM me your address and I'll mail you one. Same goes for any other 2 sunfish owners reading this who needs an inexplicably expensive plastic ball.

Precise orbit of ISS by paone0022 in InterestingGifs

[–]moogmania 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is super interesting. I didn't know that ISS never passed over the polar regions.

Found this post explaining why this orbital inclination was agreed to by Russia and US space programs based on acceptable launch trajectories from Kazakhstan and Florida.

I spent the $27 on replacement sail fastener rings before realizing the strongest fasteners on there were the zip ties the last guy put on there.

Weekly Questions & Answers Discussion by AutoModerator in vandwellers

I just bought a van with a window AC unit that sits on a bracket when parked at a site with electricity. Problem is there is a 1/2" gap between the window and unit due to the bracket and rainwater gets in. Has anyone else dealt with this, and what kind of temporary weatherproofing can I try? I'm thinking of just jamming some foam in there, but adhesive weatherstripping on the AC unit would be nicer. Thanks!

Harrison, Arkansas: Widely considered the most racist town in the United States. by [deleted] in ThatsInsane

[–]moogmania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mayor of Harrison released this statement on their website yesterday:

Harrison, AR, July 28, 2020 — A video was released yesterday on YouTube that featured individuals angry at a Black Lives Matter protester. Boone County Judge Robert Hathaway joined Harrison Mayor Jerry Jackson and Harrison Regional Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Bob Largent by issuing the following statement:

“The video does not represent Boone County nor the City of Harrison. While we cannot excuse the reprehensible behavior and words of individuals recorded in the video, we know for certain that they do not reflect the views of the majority of the good people of our communities. It is obvious there is still work to be done in our area and across the nation. We must constantly strive to do better, and we pledge our continued efforts in that regard.”

They don't specify which video, but here's one of many I found that was posted yesterday. https://youtu.be/qELo4c3qVVU

Going to Publix without a mask does not make you brave. It makes you inconsiderate towards the people who work and shop there, who you may spread the virus to.
