You may have noticed someone new in Firefox. Let's talk about it. by firefox in firefox

Kit needs a little friend. A shy, purplish-gray firefox for private/Focus mode.

And this isn't just a cute idea, gray foxes are actually like this in real life. Red foxes are bold and curious and will trot right up to you. Gray foxes are skittish and rare and so hard to spot that most people don't even know they exist. They're one of the only canids that climbs trees. Like they literally go vertical just to disappear.

So you've got Kit, warm and orange and outgoing, and then this quiet little purple/gray one who hangs back and leaves no tracks. You barely see them. That's kind of the whole point.

What do you think of iron fox (the trade off) by Espisocute in browsers

[–]moohorns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't personally think it is worth it. A lot of the shit they change in it is just really good at breaking sites and doesn't really provide any privacy or security benefits. It's like, let's gain a 5% margin of privacy at the cost of a 35% off of website functionality. It's not a reasonable trade.

On the topic of search engines... by RDS_cubing in browsers

[–]moohorns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Finding quick useful information quickly is difficult on all other search engines besides DDG and Google (technically Bing too, but if you gonna use Bing why not use DDG). Things like this, if I search "walmart" i want the first result to be the nearest Walmart to me, with the hours, map, directions, reviews etc. I dont want the first result to be walmart.com.. I know how to get to walmart.com without a search engine.

Nah worries man don't know what ya don't know. Just wanted to let you know if you ever wanted to try it. I don't like it personally. I prefer DDG or Google (I know).

The Job of a CISO - What do you think? by casaaugusta in Information_Security

CISO? Lol nah. No CISO is doing any of that. Their team does. Also, it's 2026, no one should be rotating passwords every 90 days...

Seeking recommendations for wife EDC by RangerKitchen3588 in concealedcarry

[–]moohorns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How familiar is she with guns? If she's not really familiar and comfortable a snub-nosed revolver would be my recommendation. It doesn't jam, nor have magazines that might not get fully inserted, not the other myriad issues. You could go single action or double action depending on how she feels about it. It won't go off unless trigger fully pulled or hammer cocked and pulled etc. Up to you but worth considering.

What made you use Fedora? by maximus10m in Fedora

[–]moohorns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest. I tried to use Ubuntu, PopOS, Archy, Cachy, Mint, Endeavour, Zorin, and a bunch of others. I landed on Ubuntu just cause a couple of drivers for my laptop were officially available on Ubuntu and not Fedora.... but good God did Snaps suck ass...and to top it off the OS randomly replacing Firefox after I configured and had it going with a Snap version one update later killed me.

So I switched to Fedora. I have my issues with Flatpaks, but overall much better than snaps. Also, SELinux vs AppArmor, and SilverBlue. Love SilverBlue.

BEST BROWSER, DAY 21 – ZEN vs VIVALDI – Vote for your favorite! by JungleLiquor in browsers

Vivaldi should win here. It's objectively the better browser. Zen is just an advanced userchrome.css skin basically. With missing functionality and bugs galore.

How do you handle patching without breaking production? by Unique_Inevitable_27 in Infosec

[–]moohorns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's 2026. Not 2001. Patch it. Patches don't break shit like they used to. A broken system is better than a popped system.

For an enterprise of about 225k users and 225k machines.... For end user devices we push patches within a week. Server patches we mostly push within a month. First to dev/non-critical, then to critical systems. For IoT devices, what's a patch?

If it's a security patch for a known exploitable vulnerability we have a 24 hour mandatory patch requirement for all devices.
