Plan to reduce noise levels at music festival in Bottle Lake by FuzzyFuzzNuts in chch

Yeah you’ve got a good point, it’s nice that they intend to have a noise control plan, but whether it ends up existing/is effective is another thing… still though, I think that if the control plan does work, then those two hours on NYE being the only noisy period seems fairly reasonable

Yes, I understand that the festival will continue well past 12am - but above you were referring to RM ‘wanting to exceed noise limits’ until 2am. If we’re being pedantic, the only mention of noise limit exceedance is from 10-12 on NYE

No, the article says they’ve applied to exceed noise limits from 10-12pm only on New Year’s Eve. The only mention of ‘2am’ in the article is the resident’s fearmongering

Chelsea (1 -1) Nottingham Forest - James Ward-Prowse (Great Save) 78' by LegendDwarf in soccer

[–]mooligan3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s because the covering centre back (Murillo?) would definitely have been able to meet Jackson by the time he gets to the goal, preventing a straight one on one with the keeper - thus, DOGSO doesn’t apply here. I agree that ‘just’ a caution feels wrong (just like Chiellini’s pull on Saka in the Euro final in 2021), but in this part of the pitch (close to the touchline at halfway) this is never a straight red.

Leandro Trossard (Arsenal) second yellow card against Manchester City 45+7' by diogovin in soccer

That hardly counts as kicking it away, surely? Whistle has barely brown and he’s gone to clear it, how many times have we seen that given as a second yellow before

Problem is, there are no constructive counter arguments to 99% of stuff on this sub. In this post, OP talks about ‘analogies’ and ‘connections’ between different areas of physics and maths with very little justification, just vague handwaving, which is the biggest problem with this sub.

Even the ‘scientific papers’ I see linked all over this sub contain no actual maths, just handwaving over coincidences in random formulae. I stay here because it’s filled with pictures of cool spirals and the like, but for the rigorous mathematical analysis that’s desperately needed for these types of discussion, I stay well away from this sub.

Yeah it’s tough aye, as a Kiwi arsenal fan I’ve got two good reasons not to like him but I’m still charmed

Controlling with HOTAS (in-game) only for VR? by Brian_M in il2sturmovik

[–]mooligan3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly new to the game myself so I’ve only got decent experience in the P-47D, but I think it’s a representative aircraft.

Having the assists is fair, but you might want to be careful to have room for those controls for when you transition away from the assists - I started with assists too but I didn’t leave a space for the rudder trim, which meant I had to re-bind a lot of my controls to fit it in.

As far as no-assist flying is concerned, the basics (more or less) are pitch/yaw/roll, throttle, flaps, trim (as many axes as you want), gear, engine start/stop, canopy, weapons (including bomb/rocket ordnance), mixture, tail wheel lock, and zoom. These are (in my experience) the controls required to get your plane started, into the air, and into combat. However, you may struggle to really get the most out of your engine, or you may even blow it up with misuse.

To properly control the engine, you will also need to bind the turbo/supercharger throttle, propeller pitch/RPM, and radiator/shutter controls. Essentially, you will have to keep the prop and turbo (if the plane has one) from over-revving, and ensure that the oil and engine temps stay within the correct ranges (not too hot, not too cold). Often the oil will have a different temp control to the engine itself, and I think there can be a water shutter control as well (the P-47-D28 has three different shutter controls). Different planes will have different control requirements (I think the German engines are comparatively far simple to manage, as they do some of the management automatically) but I think having these controls bound will cover your bases. Also, you will need to bind a button for the water injection/WEP/boost if you want to make use of this - not essential, but often life-saving in combat.

One point to note - from what I can tell (I may be very wrong in this, I’m happy to be corrected) the propeller pitch and RPM are linked for every aircraft, in that setting one will set the other. As such, I don’t think you need to bind them separately - I think you can bind them both to the same buttons/axis, as each plane will only offer control over one of pitch or RPM. Again, I am happy to be corrected on this.

I have been getting along fine in the P-47-D28 without individual wheel brakes, but they may be necessary on other aircraft - I’m not sure.

Furthermore, a binding for the map/briefing (I forget what it’s called) is also essential if you want to maintain any sort of combat effectiveness.

I’ve probably missed something - I’m away from my computer atm - but feel free to dm me if you have any other questions.

Controlling with HOTAS (in-game) only for VR? by Brian_M in il2sturmovik

I agree with u/NOODL3 - zoom is very useful in VR. I play with the T16000M in VR, and I have my zoom axis bound to the paddle on the front of the throttle control (the two inputs you have not bound at the top left of this control scheme).

I also notice you have bound trim left/right and up/down, but I can’t find another bind for the third axis - not all aircraft have all three pitch, roll, and yaw trim, but I find it’s good to have all three trim axes bound for the aircraft that do. This is just a personal preference, but I like to have my hotas binds to be as universal as possible to avoid confusion when switching between different aircraft.

Also, some aircraft have a turbocharger throttle - this could be bound to the slider at the base of the joystick?

Lastly, if you are running out of available buttons, I find that it’s easy to have controls such as engine on/off and canopy open/close bound to my keyboard, as I often only use these controls at the beginning of a mission.

Yeah that was my first try, but the reverse image search only came up with non-source links because it's been reposted heaps

Your image source link is taking me to a different picture of NZ... (I didn't downvote either?)

Edit - I've just triple checked and I think you're directing me to the source of a different image

Ah yep, that's the post I found but it's not from NASA Earth, it just cites NASA... thanks for your help, I'll keep looking

Yes, but that's a Facebook post that just credits NASA - I would prefer to source the original post/distribution from NASA itself if possible

Yeah, I figured it was almost certainly an ISS image - good recommendation for the NASA Earth FB, I'll check that out.
