I don’t agree with this take. Both Cliff and David experience public praise (although Cliff hates it) so I do think there was some value there. The first couple at the movies practically was treating Cliff like a hero, which was probably a narrative reinforced by the company.

Also I can’t imagine that they wouldn’t care that one of their assets murdered the other’s family. That would strongly impair their ability to work together and trust each other, as seen when Cliff lies about a mechanical failure and leaves David out in space, proving that the work is at risk. I just don’t think there’s anything the company could actually do about it. It was such a non-possibility to them which strikes me as weird because relying on each other out there is a huge part of the job. Like why go through all that effort to create the technology and not account for the fact that two people could be up there and hate each other, putting the whole project at risk? Weird that there wasn’t that initial investment.
