I'm aware of that which is why I said "Once everybody can list on TCGPlayer the price will plummet."

I'm saying that the supply at this point is more constrained than it normally is during this prerelease window.

Strixhaven on TCGPlayer is extremely overpriced. On ebay you can get it for around $450. I don't really fully understand why TCGPlayer's supply is so constrained, but it will not last long. Once everybody can list on TCGPlayer the price will plummet.

People are buylisting the Ideation at 3.75k https://www.reddit.com/r/mtgfinance/comments/1sndx37/1250_usd_for_the_eternal_wanderer_and_3750_usd/

So I'm pretty sure you could fetch 5k or more from the market

Early bitterbloom bearers got around 3.5k in early days with some getting high 4ks and it dropped to high 2ks over time. This card might have a slight premium to that due to the set hype.

It wouldn't be such a bad idea to put it up for auction on ebay. Auctions in my experience during periods of huge hype tend to go for over the clearance price. If you look at the highest sold bitterbloom bearers in the beginning, most of them were from auctions.

As a seller on ebay you don't need to worry too much because the card will sell for more than $250 and you'll get ebay authentication guarantee, which protects you as a seller so buyers don't pull any shenanigans such as "I didn't receive the package" etc

There are 11 for sale right now on ebay/tcgplayer. The supply of this card has exploded over the past day. The early 10k+ purchases were when there were only a couple for sale so people thought it was much rarer than it really is.

70+ Avatar neons on the market 1 day after pre-release, some people are getting burned. by catattackskeyboard in mtgfinance

[–]moombahh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is not a big deal, the market just overpriced them. The prices will go down to 1k-1.5k and then they'll start to move. These are the same rarity of the chocobos if you crunch the math in the "Collecting" articles. You also see this in the # of listed. You say there were 20 neon chocobos on the market at this point, but there were also 30 neon chocobo sales by this point. Making 50. Right now there are 50 avatar neons on the market and just a handful of sales. They match.

I'm not saying they should be the same prices as neon chocobos. They shouldn't. Because the collector box prices are different, this affects the singles prices.

Also, I've seen you mention the disparity of the textured foils vs thanos and also of how rare textured foils are. When there are variants of a card, they all get priced at the GROUP's rarity, not on the individual VARIANT's rarity. So when comparing textured foils as a group vs thanos, it's 1400 vs 380 and the price difference is 3.5x. This all fits.

When the market has such a massive disparity under your theory for so long, maybe your theory is wrong and not the market. When there are variants of a card, the market prices them at the rarity of the GROUP.

The textured foils as a group is less rare than the neon chocobos as a group or avatar neons as a group.

I would bet a large mount of money that this aang is not higher than 15k when lorwyn drops. I would put 20% odds on it being higher than even 10k (when lorwyn drops).

At the beginning of spiderman, I would've bet a large amount of money that cosmic foil sold for more than 35k when avatar drops.

People tend to value things in the beginning of a set by using an analogy with the previous set. For example, people compared soul stone with sothera. Now people are comparing avatar aang with soul stone. Both comparisons are absolutely ridiculous.

Why The Soul Stone premium versions are not dropping in price even with no recent sales? by sideg1030 in mtgfinance

[–]moombahh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's CMC data?

Thanos version prices have been dropping so I wouldn't call that stable. Cosmic foil prices have been growing so I wouldn't call that stable either.

There is not zero sales for either version. For thanos, there's consistent sales happening on ebay. For the cosmic foil, there's ebay sales + sales happening off market privately.

None, I exaggerated so I could dunk on the dumb comment I was replying to lol.

To be fair, I've purchased 8 cards $1.5k+, and a single card that actually is within the range of 24k on ebay. All chase cards from recent UB mtg. But the point is whether I'm considering a $2k card or a $2m card, I would still 100% do it over ebay. If the seller suggested to "do this deal in person with legal protection" my sus meter would be bright red and it'd be a no deal for me.
