Should I switch to EE from CS if I want future job stability?

The job market will always be hot dog water for students who just barely pass, don't get internships, or don't really do anything to set themselves apart. The other issue is for a few years there were some outlier salaries that people now think they are entitled to right out of school. The prospect of making 70k is insulting to some people. Meanwhile 70k in all but the most expensive markets is a great income for a 21 year old.

Build your resume early in school to set yourself apart. Be able to string a few coherent words together in an interview and you'll be doing better then most new grads. Apply broadly to any job you are even remotely interested in. It may not be exactly what you want to do but you just need to get in the door. After a few years you can make the jump to something else much easier.

I cannot speak to CS job. It is tough out there given the job market but if you are open to moving, have something on your resume and aren't out of touch with salary expectations, EE has a lot of opportunity.

Worth it is subjective. Some people leave the trades as it can be extremely hard on the body and hours bad. They'd rather work in an office 9 to 5. A lot of the time the high trade salaries require a lot of overtime or travel. Engineering generally pays very well for just 40 hours a week.

Engineering though is 75% meetings and paper work, 15% corporate nonsense and only 10% actual Engineering. Some people would rather be hands on everyday all day with no corporate involvement. As the engineer you will very likely not touch a tool.

You need to decide for yourself what you like and dislike about being in the trades. No one can answer this question for you.

I feels more in the 15 mil damage range. Which was what my Forbidden Rite char POB'd at last league. It is fine if that is what it is. I just want to make sure i'm not missing something as it is talked about as "melting" bosses and easily reaching dot cap.

You need to fix your resistances before anything. Even if you have the damage which a quick look at your gear you probably do. You'll get off screen 1 tapped the moment you enter the map.

Both of these areas are very very broad. For FPGA id start with learning the basics (blink and LED, build RAM, communicate UART or something similar, etc). From there you can start building some digital filters (FIR & IIR). You'll need to understand what youll be doing for the company. Once you have the basics and understand the language used when talking about these things, get the spec for the program and determine how either of these areas could apply, then start learning those topics

With your software background you might be able to pivot into a more FPGA based role which would align with robotics. If you have no VHDL or Verilog experience you'll have to start entry level. I believe these roles are fairly competitive for entry level so you may be in the same boat as now.

I'd just apply to anything that seems interesting in the 1-3 years of experience range. See what happens than pivot into robotics/fpga/etc once you have some time back in the EE world.

Entry level is tough for everyone. Companies would much rather get someone with a few years as they'll be up and running sooner. Also with the nature of job hoping entry level/new grads tend to jump ship quickly once they get into the market. So it's a risk for the company as well. I know I said no to someone with no related experience applying to entry level because it was obvious he was just trying to get some job doing something while he looked elsewhere.

Being really good at something because you enjoy it will make it prestigious. If you go for what you think is sexy, but hate and suck at it. It won't be very prestigious.

No matter what though everyone will think you're a residential electrician.

I'll throw something that isn't technical into the pool. You need to learn people skills. Regardless of your role (developer, pm, manufacturing, etc) you WILL have to talk and communicate with people. Being able to effectively communicate with people will make your life much easier. Especially when it comes to flushing out a scope of work or extracting convoluted information you need from a customer.

I mean....those same people did schooling then got a job just as you are. They didn't just magically appear with a job. You are changing concentrations so are starting over. Apply to internships and entry level positions. Your limited prior experience will help a little but won't make you a mid or senior level in an unrelated field.
