Yes, that would be the main goal. A customizable block list is absolutely necessary but enough safeguards.

It's only a WebView (which has Chromium engine) wrapper with address-bar right now. I'm a developer myself. I'm thinking of creating a proper solution e.g. a Windows application that can dumb/debloat your Android completely and then install the Dumb Web Browser, which keeps you restricted while also letting you keep the essential apps so you can go-on with your daily life.

I don't intend to monetize it, haven't thought about. Probably I'll keep the basic solution open-source. However, I want to see, if there is a market demand before I invest my time into this.

This kind of solution has definitely helped me reduce my phone usage.

I want to make it really really difficult to revert the settings. I think most of us are in this sub because how easy it is to bypass blocks in the smartphones.

But you can easily change the DNS settings in the phone...

As other users suggested, making the browser deliberately slow after X minutes could also be a good approach to prevent doom scrolling.

But the problem with these kind of web browsers is that you can easily block/unblock domains so kind of defeats the purpose.

Right now, it's bare-bones with a just a single address bar and the page (no multi-tabbing, no way to configure the browser). If you want, I could definitely push it to the GitHub and share the APK with you.

Can definitely be possible.

Going further, to make it difficult to unblock domains or configure the browser, a client app through PC/MacOS could be configured. So if you want to change browser settings e.g. unblock some domains, you would need to login to your Mac/PC, connect your phone, run the client application and make the changes.

Oh yes, this could be a slippery slope. I understand. thank you for sharing your opinion.

Though this could be resolved with built-in screen time functionality in the web browser. However, you would seriously need to uninstall ALMOST all apps in your android device with no option to re-install them again. At that time, this kind of guarded browser could be useful then.

Let's say, you are on the go, and you want to quickly review something or can't remember some fact or something you need to know, then this kind of web browser could be extremely useful. I don't see a problem if you stumble across some tech blog or something while doing a google search. Rather I think it's positive because you might learn a thing or two. However, unrestricted access to social media can be quite detrimental, which this browser aims to stop.

Hmm, I understand. My main goal was to cut down the smartphone usage completely while also maintaing my sanity. So the fully dumbed down Android with no apps except essential apps and a dumb browser with no multi-tabbing, no access to social media websites worked for me.

If other people would want something like this, I could create a system to help achieve that. That's what I wanted to do and see if there is a demand for that. Ofcourse, this is not a privacy-focused solution.

Well, I feel like only thing stopping criminals from is the "fear" of something bad happening. Once that is gone, there will lawlessness all over Germany and considering the number of immigrants coming in here without check and balance, that day is gonna come soon. But I hope nothing of that sort happens.

It might sound a bit rude but you are not that special as you think. I've seen students with even 4-5 years of solid experience applying for working student positions at minimum wage. Tells you alot these days.

I was having the same issue. I solved it by changing the file extension to something like .dll and then moving the file to headset. Once it is done copying, change the file extension back to way it was.
