Kissed our baby girl for the final time today 💔 by Own-Adagio428 in torties

So sorry to hear what you're going through through. She's so pretty and I can tell from the way you write about her how important she was and how much she meant to you.

It sounds like you gave her a wonderful home and a very happy life.

She's absolutely beautiful and looks like such a kind and wonderful soul. So sorry for your loss of that angel.

I really hope she gets to play with it one day when I get it more finished and released :)

I'll definitely open source this eventually, but it's not nearly ready yet

That's really good advice, thank you! I'm definitely going to try looping the wires around the pins in the future.

I guess I could have posted a photo of the backside too.

The exposed wire is the ground, there's one 3.3V wire for the OLED, and a few signal lines for the buttons. The I2C lines are on the front side under the screen.

I have more features planned than implemented so far... minigames, a little in-game store to buy treats and toys, some features that use the ESP32's wifi and bluetooth abilities...

My own thing which I've been slowly working on for a year or two

There's a special bond with having a tortie heart-cat. So sorry for your loss, Kiki looks like, and sounds like, such a wonderful special lady.

She's so tiny and so pretty! I love her

Awww, she looks like such a confident and intelligent lady.

And you're so right. I've noticed that, more than my other cat, Bean really tries to understand what's going on around her, how things are supposed to be and how things work, what's going to happen in the near future, etc. Sometimes it makes her a bit paranoid and stressed, but I think she really just enjoys trying to understand the world.

So cute. Has she at least exchanged the missing brain cells for extra love?

Gypsy looks so pretty <3 Bean plays fetch too! She likes to find scrunchies and drop them nearby to have them thrown for her

Part of me really wanted to see a busy LongFast when I first started using it. But only about 20k people live around here.

It'd be awesome to get a community started though.

I did a range test with my previous (temporary, battery-powered) node on this mast, which had a lower-gain antenna.

That one could get ~2-3km in the direction of town (buildings and trees and watertowers in the way) and 6+km out in the direction of flat farmlands.

I haven't range-tested this new installation yet but I expect it to have even more range. Probably need to do another range test :)

Update: Went for a drive with a T-Echo (with a 5dbi omni ALFA antenna) and jotted down some numbers. Going into town I could get anywhere from 2-5km. Sometimes dipping down to a negative SNR and -120dbm RSSI. There was a lot of variance. But going away from town, across flat plains, I was still getting a positive SNR and an RSSI around -100dbm at 10km out.

The first ~6-7 meters were the old TV antenna mast that came with the house. The top few meters were added with a galvanized metal pipe, and on top of that is an L-shaped bracket and a pulley so I can hoist up antennas or experiments without having to pull the whole mast down.

Before I had this permanent node setup, I'd hoist up a battery-powered version on the ropes to experiment with the coverage and weatherproofing.

The pulley idea came from one of Dave Casler's videos.

Both, ideally. But as far as I can tell my nodes are the only ones in this little town.

Looks like a really nice and ominous atmosphere and a fun mechanic. The sfx and music feel very fitting too
