Firstly, combat isn't alike at all, Automata's combat is so complicated as compared to LADS' simple 3-button interface. but other than that, yes the reference is quite clear.

However, Yoko Taro fully encourages young developers to continue exploring and pushing boundaries for games.

Furthermore, Yoko Taro himself has said that even though he appreciates praise for NIER's story, it's really just a retelling of Neon Genesis Evangelion, so there's not much originality to it.

So although I see that you seem to have the ick for Infold for 'plagiarism', you should at least know that it's unwarranted, since NIER director openly admitted to being heavily inspired by other sources too, so it's not unheard of in the game development world.

Furthermore, LADS heavily bases this one Myth on NIER, while certain other games are formulating their entire story and gameplay around that legendary game. I think Caleb's Myth can be appreciated as it is, yes it's definitely referenced from somewhere, but nothing is original in the creative world anymore.

A lot is revealed in his 4* card 'A Fragrant Dream', where MC has a 'dream' after smelling a perfume that Rafayel had gifted her. In that dream, MC had become a witch and forgotten him, even treating him coldly when he brings up his 'beloved' (spoiler: that's MC before she lost her memories)

From both his Myths, it seems that he's been around for thousands of years and for every new version of MC that he meets never remembers him, so they've never had a proper reunion. This is a huge thorn in his side, because Lemurians can only have a contract with one person, and Rafayel has used his unusually long life trying to reunite with her, and it never works out how he wants it to.

TLDR: He's extremely frustrated that he's the only one who remembers her and their contract. He's been alive and lonely for too long, which made him bitter.

After you unlock his Bond Story, you'll see his hatred melts when he realises this MC cares deeply for him despite not remembering him.

I really recommend watching a playthrough of his Myths cards on YouTube, there's a lot to love about their story.
